About John

Hello students!

I am a recent college graduate from Amherst College, the best liberal arts college in the US. I graduated cum laude as a double major in Math and Biology. I have been tutoring students since I was a sophomore in high school, and throughout college, I worked as a mentor at Reader to Reader, an organization that provides reading assistance to underprivileged K-12 students across America. I also worked as a Telementor during my time at Amherst College, providing college counseling assistance to low income high school seniors, which was highly rewarding. I am a member of Sigma Xi: The Scientific Research Society, a non-profit honor society dedicated to the advancement of scientific research. My liberal arts education has given me a well-rounded educational background. I have taken classes from Shakespeare to Organic Chemistry to Logic to Abstract Algebra, and have loved all of them. For you aspiring doctors, I have taken relevant pre-med coursework and have experience with healthcare settings.

In addition to a rigorous academic career, I was also a member of the Zumbyes, an acapella group on campus. In my free time, I love to read books, exercise, and travel. I recently concluded a tour of Jamaica with the Zumbyes and have also been on fieldwork excursions to Costa Rican tropical rainforests.

As a highschool student I took AP Calculus AB and BC, and I excelled (A's and 5's) because of an excellent math teacher. This kick-started my math career and was my motivation for becoming a math major at Amherst. I also excelled on SAT and SATII math through self study and I can provide strategies for efficient studying through time crunches.

Though I love all subjects, Biology is my favorite. I have worked in various labs throughout my college career and I have a confident grasp of the fundamentals of biology, including cell structure and function, ecology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. I also wrote a interdisciplinary thesis on mathematically modeling gene expression in D. melanogaster (fruit flies).

Feel free to contact me about any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting you!
