I haven't even had a chance to add everything I love about the prospect of online homeschool into this description yet—but stay tuned.

I am an experienced writer and teacher, with a passion for helping adults and children alike strengthen their writing and comprehend math to the depth that they want to. Learning should compliment what you want from life. I want to foster understanding to that end, and work together on creating a love of learning you are comfortable with and enjoying, not pressured into. You can love editing your novel to perfection, and you can love passing a class, but I promise we will break through and demystify the inner workings of your subject either way.

From high school on, I looked back on my GATE-placement classes and started to notice a running theme: For no reason other than privilege, we are taught differently. The education system is catering to one set of learning styles in most of its classrooms, but implementing strategies that actually get children excited about writing, or make you genuinely understand math, in only a select few.

With 15 units of Child Development coursework and nine months classroom teaching experience behind me, I am confident in my ability to help your child understand their coursework in a developmentally appropriate fashion. We can demystify Common Core and help them meet standards while giving learning concrete meaning, and reaching learning accomplishments together. I don't want to tutor just enough to keep my students coming back; I want to work with you and hand you the pieces of understanding and instruction that might be missing.

At Los Angeles Valley College, I make sure to reserve time every night for several classmates who pull me aside after class: To explain assignments, to discuss the readings, to ask how to accomplish what the professor has asked us to accomplish...

Elementary Math

I scored a 730 on my SAT subject test for Math 2, back in high school, and I've successfully studied math up through Calculus BC. Now, I'm my family's go-to "math person" and have routinely tutored both of my younger siblings, as well as developing emergent math curriculum for a classroom of 2.5- to 4-year-olds.

Homeschool

I'm an Early Childhood major, but the ways in which we learn about brain development and about how human beings learn can be applied - in different ways, of course - across each stage of life. I've created curriculum for a fast-moving classroom based in students' interests and needs, and have completed my Curriculum coursework for my AA. I am privileged to have had access to magnet programs which tailor curriculum to students in ways that high school math, in particular, is not usually taught, and have experience using what I've learned there to help my peers and younger siblings grasp math concepts: both in the way the teacher wants them done, and in the way that makes the learning stick. My focus with curriculum is process-based, tailored to individual learning styles, and intrinsically motivating.

I've completed music theory college coursework up through Harmony I and played jazz and classical bass for over 10 years. (My sister—a budding composer—and I also enjoy tossing around ear training exercises, like changing a song from minor to major or assigning solfège by ear, for fun!)

I have experience teaching/tutoring in music for ages 2 through 16. I began studying classical upright bass in 6th grade, and jazz in 7th. I went on to be a bass section leader in junior and senior year, open the Playboy Jazz Festival with the LAUSD All-City Jazz Band, and be accepted to Cal State Northridge as a Music Therapy major before switching to Child Development at LAVC. I have college credits in music theory through Harmony I. I taught with Drum to LEARN for a one-year internship.

Perfect tutor for my young writer

We hired Justice to mentor our 11-year-old son, an aspiring writer. He has *loved* every minute with Justice. She gets excited about his projects and guides them with just the right touch. She gives him exercises which strengthen both his writing and his comprehension. She teaches him new words. They discuss character development, sentence structure, plot, themes, metaphor, and grammar. She comes to lessons well-prepared for the topics my son is interested in. She gives him concrete feedback on his writing that builds him each lesson. She's easy to schedule with and reliable. I really cannot say enough good things about Justice. She was *such* a good find.
