So, you want to know a little about me? Well, I'll start by saying I'm an award-winning fashion, commercial and portrait photographer. My work has been seen and published in national and international magazines such as Forbes, GQ, Vogue Italia, Vibe, Sister 2 Sister, Jet, Essence and Uptown Magazine to name a few; as well as international selling CD and book covers, clothing ad campaigns, top modeling agencies, and countless celebrities—including Janet Jackson, Beverly Johnson, Kevin Hart and Russell Simmons.
My artistic journey began when I was just a kid, sketching portraits, cartoon characters and capturing scenes from my imagination with pencils, markers and paint. By the time I was 12, I had already began displaying and selling my artwork in galleries. I also became a young, nationally published poet and won numerous essay and writing contests. Although, it wasn’t until I took a photography course in college, while pursuing my passion for writing as a magazine journalism major, that my gift for photography was unveiled.
Initially, I just wanted to be a writer. So photography was the furthest thing from my mind. But when I began learning it—the process of capturing images on film, developing it all in a dark room and then seeing it slowly come to life, it was like magic to me! That was my beginning. Once I started learning digital photography I was hooked! It was like a drug; instant gratification…and I couldn’t get enough of it.
But shooting digital photography and 35mm film are two different things, so I primarily taught myself how to shoot digitally, using what I learned in the photography course I had in college. And the retouching and editing process of digital photography actually reminds me of my days drawing—working with shadows and light, blending colors with paint and pencils, adding or taking away various elements of an image as I see it in my mind, and just making faces look as beautiful, natural and perfect as I saw them.
Now that I am considered a "professional" in my field--an advanced photographer, one could say--I find myself providing advice, tips, and educating others on the technical, practical, and even business aspects of photography all the time. I genuinely love helping others and developing their knowledge of something I, myself am incredibly passionate about. And learning is truly a never-ending process, and it's my goal to try and open your mind to as many new things to learn as possible so that you're as satisfied with the process as you are with the end result.
I'm highly skilled in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and post production/retouching. I'm also very knowledgeable about the technical aspects of photography. Moreover, I love sharing knowledge with others, and I've tutored children between the ages of 6-16 for many years, so I have enough patience to work with you until it's right.
If you'd like to learn photography, digital retouching, and advanced lighting techniques with a working, published photographer, I'm your guy! So, you want to know a little about me? In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've been a professional photographer for the last 8 years, and began with a photography course I excelled at in college. I know both the film and digital world of photography and have spent thousands of hours learning, practicing, developing and working in my craft. I'm constantly studying and advancing my own knowledge of photography, and I believe I have the experience, credentials, and talent to share my gift with others.
