Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I have been using InDesign for high-end design projects for about 12 years. I have designed and prepared files for print production using InDesign in a professional design studio. I have trained design interns and further enhanced their InDesign skills. I have used InDesign on a professional level to design a variety of print projects including ads, brochures, signage, billboards, catalogs, newsletters, packaging and large format graphics. I started out using Quark Xpress and moved on to InDesign, using it on a daily basis. I'm constantly reading up on new tricks that Adobe has added to the program and I am very comfortable teaching others how to use it.

Desktop Publishing

I have extensive desktop publishing experience creating documents using page layout skills and type design in a basic program like Microsoft Word and a more advanced program like InDesign. Some of my desktop publishing projects that I have printed on my home computer include business cards, flyers, brochures, programs, invitations, signs, stickers, addressing envelopes and stationery. I am a Graphic Designer and am very advanced in desktop publishing due to my extensive background.

Graphic Design

I have worked as a Graphic Designer, creating successful ad campaigns, branding, graphic design, marketing materials, brochures and logos. I have a keen eye for type design, color, photography and visual identity. I’ve created many projects requiring the management of multiple assets and organization of manuscripts into collateral campaigns, manuals and marketing materials. My skills range from creative concept, design, layout, production, and all aspects of project management. My graphic design portfolio can be viewed upon request.

I have worked on the Macintosh since its inception in the late 1980s. I have owned almost every model of Macintosh to my current 28" iMac. I'm well versed in the technology of the hardware, how to choose and set up a Mac, connecting it to the Internet, printers, dual screens, Wacom tablet and external hard drives. I have experience downloading and installing software, purchasing and installing extra ram, maintaining and troubleshooting the Mac. I am well versed in the Mac basic software such as iTunes, Mail, Preview, TextEdit, iPhoto and iDVD. Additionally I have major experience using all of the Adobe programs on the Mac as well as compression software, font management software and the internet browsers.

Bonnie taught me the basic tools on Adobe Illustrator which will allow for my success in future projects. She showed me how to utilize the tools in Illustrator and allowed for me to try and test these tools out. I learned how to play with gradients and the pen tool (to customize shapes). Overall, I left feeling more comfortable with the program and would definitely consider having a second session
