About Brian

My experience as a college instructor at Carnegie Mellon University, Kennesaw State University, and Western Kentucky University enables me to help students achieve at any academic level. I have a proven history of enhancing the academic performance of my students, and references are available upon request.

I teach the following subjects: English, Writing, AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP English, ACT English, Reading, and Writing, SAT Verbal and Writing. I work with all ability levels and backgrounds, from honors students who want an extra edge to students with special needs. I also have extensive experience instructing international students.

Additionally, I offer individual guidance on college application essays. My college teaching experience has given me a window into how essays can stand out from the crowd and impress the admissions committee.

With customized lessons, I empower students to master subject material, build study skills, and raise grades. I coach clients to organize thoughts, write with confidence, and employ rhetorical strategies. We can also focus on expanding vocabulary, managing time, and reviewing fundamentals of grammar.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Special Needs

I completed training with the Student Accessibility Office at Kennesaw State University in effective teaching methods and instructional design for students with a variety of special needs. I have experience tailoring lessons for students with vision or hearing impairment, language difficulties, learning disabilities, and ADD/ADHD. I have also had the honor of working to create educational environments suitable to the needs of combat veterans suffering the effects of PTSD.

Theatre

I am a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. I have served as a collegiate instructor of Playwriting, Theatre Appreciation, Intro to Theatre and Performance Studies, Arts In Society, and Theatre Colloquium at Carnegie Mellon, Kennesaw State, Western Kentucky, and Valparaiso.
