Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Proofreading

When it comes to academic writing, I have had extensive experience. I have written several research papers, including a master's thesis and an article that has been published in a peer-reviewed psychology journal. I also have vast experience editing and providing feedback on the work of others, either through collaborative work with peers or during my teaching assistant positions during graduate school. I can help you get that polished, professional proposal or research paper in no time!

Psychology

My focus in psychology is in applied social psychology. In my own work, I study the influence of group memberships and community connections on the navigation of multiple social identities in minority individuals. I have, however, also studied topics in the areas of organizational/industrial psychology, health behavior, attitudes and social influence, cognitive psychology, and closeness and interpersonal relationships. With my understanding of these many areas of psychology, I help students learn and master these complex psychological concepts.

SPSS

As an advanced graduate student in social psychology, I have been conducting analyses in SPSS for several years now. My experience includes t-tests, ANOVAs, and multiple regression, as well as advanced statistical methods such as factor analysis, ANCOVA and MANOVA, structural equation modeling, and more. I use a practical hands on approach to helping others understand the step-by-step process of running analyses and interpreting SPSS output.

Statistics

In my graduate training, I have placed a strong emphasis on statistics courses. I have completed coursework on advanced research methods and statistics, covering topics such as factor analysis, multiple regression, power analysis, and structural equation modeling, as well as the conceptual underpinnings of statistics. I am most familiar with the SPSS program, but I also have experience using the open source program, R. Though I don't deny that statistical concepts can be extremely challenging (even for me!) I look forward to grappling with these ideas and helping my students master them.

Writing

I often find that the most challenging part of writing for my students is translating their ideas clearly from thought to page. With a strong writing background, I help students clearly and concisely convey their ideas to the reader, while paying close attention to grammar, spelling, diction, and punctuation. I also work with students to make sure they adhere to all of the requirements for the paper or assignment (e.g., writing in APA style). My strength is in academic writing for the psychological sciences, but these writing principles can truly apply to any field.
