I love to learn, and as a result, have spent a large portion of my life learning and doing what I love to do --teaching and tutoring. I attended undergraduate school in NY and began to teach Spanish and French. I then continued to graduate school to complete my master's degree in language. After moving out west to CA, I became interested in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), and obtained my credential in adult education. I currently teach ESL in adult school in the evenings.
In addition, I love to write. In my professional career, I have written newsletters, press releases, and other materials as a marketing professional. As a result of my writing experience, I have a great foundation in grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure. I have taught classes in business communications, and will be able to review your material and give you suggestions on improving your text.
One-on-one tutoring is one of my favorite ways to teach, because I have the opportunity to see where my student needs assistance. Working as a team, my student and I can review the materials until we are satisfied with the results, whether it is a written document or a grammar exercise.
If a student needs to cancel a lesson, I would like to have a 24-hour notice. Given the notice, we have the opportunity to reschedule the lesson at another time. Additionally, I like the student and/or the parent to be satisfied with the lesson. I appreciate knowing if there are any things I can improve upon.
Teaching is my passion. I look forward to meeting you and working with you in the future to create a successful learning experience. Marianne was such a great help. She is very willing to answer all of your questions and she comes so prepared. Many times with a tutor I have been uncomfortable asking a question for fear that they would think my question is dumb but she really is truthfully so great at making a comfortable environment to study in. Of all the tutors that I could have chosen from WyzAnt, I chose her and I am so glad that I did.
Wonderful feedback! I am very happy that you felt comfortable learning with me. When you are a student, no question is ever "dumb". You are in the process of learning, so asking questions is the way to go. Thank you for your confidence in my teaching abilities.
Please call me if you ever need my assistance again. It was a pleasure!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a credential to teach English.
Over the last six years, I have been an ESL teacher at a local adult school, teaching levels 1/2 and 3/4. I teach pronunciation, reading, writing, grammar, verbs, and conversation. In addition, I teach a computer literacy class to ESL students. I have a permanent credential in teaching ESL to adults.
I have been teaching English grammar as part of my ESL teaching for the past six years. I consider myself an expert in English grammar because of my writing background in marketing and my teaching experience. I have studied English grammar in my ESL training as well.
I have been a marketing manager for a credit union over the last seven years. In graduate school, my concentration was marketing. In addition, I have taught marketing at a community college in a hybrid class.
I am a certificated teacher who also teaches a Saturday class in resume writing, online job search, and interviewing techniques at a local adult school using a PowerPoint presentation format. I developed the three-part series based on my prior teaching experience at a four-year college. I typically have about 30 students in my class while I make the presentation. This is the third year I have made these presentations, and my classes typically fill up. As part of my class, I teach my students how to present themselves on a job interview with a future employer. This skill helps my students become better communicators and gives them a chance to show their oral presentation skills.
I have a permanent certification in Spanish from the NY public school system. I majored in Spanish in college and taught for seven years. I speak Spanish fluently and have taught grammar, reading, and writing in middle school.
I majored in marketing in graduate school, where I learned how to become a better writer. At my full-time position as Marketing Manager at a credit union, I wrote the monthly newsletter for 13 years that was distributed to over 13,000 people. I have taught business writing at CSUN and in non-credit adult education classes.
