Ladies and gentlemen,
I'll come straight to the point... I am very good at detecting grammatical errors in the speech and writing of people who had to learn English as a Secondary Language, for I have spent so much time with so many people in this group in so many different places. These include people from the Far East, Middle East, (far and wide) Europe and those in the American Southwest.
I was, of course, born and raised in the USA and received high marks in English, and afterward having been published many times in many forms and fora, even serving as a media spokesperson for an U.S. Presidential Campaign.
That is English. I would be more than happy to help people in the San Fernando Valley, Burbank, Beverly Hills, Westwood or West LA to perfect their English skills including grammar as well as correct pronunciation.
I have endless patience.
P.S. My endless patience comes because I have have been, "on the other side of the fence," having spent many years living, studying and working in every part of the Netherlands and parts of Germany. So I know how frustrating it can all be.
I would like to use my Dutch skills helping people have a better experience in the Netherlands, whether it be a soon-to-be-expatriate, or a vacationer. An extra value is that Flemish, one of the three languages spoken in Belgium, is also a dialect of Dutch, so one will be able make one's way 'round Belgium as well.
Not being in the Netherlands right now, it would be nice for me to have a way to use my Dutch language skills for something other than reading things on the web and talking to the occasional Dutch speaker that I hear touring Los Angeles.
So I would be more than happy to help you start learning this interesting, historic but still living language which really isn't so hard. Ladies and gentlemen,
I'll come straight to the point... I am very good at detecting grammatical errors in the speech and writing of people who had to learn English
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Business was my main area of study. I have the following qualifications: B.S. BYU Hawaii, Business Management; M.A. Emerson College, Global Marketing, Communications & Advertising; Certificate from International Advertising Association. My main job for the last few years has been investing, where I buy and sell stocks and bonds and real estate. So I understand business, buying and selling marketable securities, such as stocks and bonds, and all the problematics regarding of buying a house… Including mortgages and refinancing. Between 1993 and 2001, I facilitated the purchase of five houses in two different cities in two different states. And having lived abroad, I know a great deal about international business and about using foreign currencies. And I can make it easy for anyone to understand any article in the Wall Street Journal or the Economist.
I have 30+ years of ownership and operating experience with computers of many types, from Apple II & the Macintosh through to the MS-DOS era, the introduction of Windows 3.1 and its transformations to Windows 95, 98, the multiple versions released at the turn of the century, XP, ViSTA and Windows 7.
At 15, I had programming BASIC, COBOL, and Data Processing survey classes at the local community college, and I computerized the payroll of my family's small restaurant, turning a 2 day job into a 2 hour job, at a time when this was simply not being done by small businesses.
Recently I took a TCP/IP class at UCLA's Extension. TCP/IP is the set of protocol by which the internet works.
My Minor Degree is in Business Information Systems.
I have taught 9-12 year olds at Montessori Pre-school, and high school students as a teacher's assistant, given my advanced knowledge of the machinery.
I can resolve problems over the telephone with the elderly and those with little knowledge of how the machinery works, teaching the user how to resolve the problem him/herself.
6. I am excellent with teaching proper selection and use of peripherals, including wireless technology such as Wi-fi and Bluetooth, as well as printers, scanners, smartphones and their interactive, usually wireless, features.
I speak Dutch to a very high level. I lived, studied, and worked in the Netherlands from 1993 to 2007, and in more than one metropolitan area. I have been all over the Netherlands, and the further away one gets from the Western conurbation of cities, the more one needs to speak Dutch. And one does need to speak Dutch if one is going to work. Television and movies are subtitled in Dutch, so if one pays attention, one cannot help but have a very good vocabulary. Further, my mother tongue is English, I studied German intensely in the US and Germany, and under these conditions, Dutch is very easy to learn. I speak standard ABN, which is, "standard Dutch," without any accents or dialects.
I'm working with my 15th Macintosh, after having 2 Apple IIs for the preceding 10 years. Using the Apple II, at 15 years old, I computerized the payroll of my parents small restaurant. I've moved with the company through all of its migrations, from the huge divisions between PCs and Macs early on, to the most recent change to Intel processors. On both laptops and desktops, I can install software and hardware, rundown problematic functions or conflicts between software and hardware or hardware and hardware. I can diagnose and fix operating system (OS) problems as well as settings problems and actual problems with software programs. I'm also well-versed at Macintosh networking, both wireless and wired, and with setting up VPNs. If you have either a new or an old Macintosh, I am able to help you make it work better for you, and help you to work better with it. I have had a TCP/IP class from UCLA extension in 2010, in addition to Business Information Management being my minor in college.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, which includes Marketing, and a Master of Arts Degree in Global (or intercultural) Marketing Communications & Advertising.
I have worked at large and small foreign firms at their Head Offices in the Marketing Departments, concentrating on Pricing and Distribution, and at a medium-sized US firm starting it's marketing and distribution for the EU and Eastern Europe.
And I have worked in U.S. Presidential Campaign Management, which is marketing in it's most pure form, with Credentials in Campaign Communications from the campaign management school of one of the major U.S. political parties.
In 2010 I completed a TCP/IP class at UCLA extension, which is the set of protocols used in networking both intranet and Internet. This included a complex discussion of ethernet as well (the beginning and the end of a network data conversations are the ethernet addresses of the computers involved). In addition I have used networking concepts to join computers stationed in various parts of the world between 1999 and 2013. My minor degree is in Business Information Systems.
I have been a spokesperson for a presidential campaign. (GHW Bush v Clinton, 1992.) I have credentials in political campaign communications from the Republican national committee. I have a Masters degree in communications from Boston's Emerson College, the premier university in the United States for the study of communications. And I have made speeches, participated in debates, and have been a media spokesperson, including last year, 25 minutes on Dutch radio speaking Dutch about the upcoming presidential campaign states.
