Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (Compar. Literature)
Master of Arts in Linguistics (English) (Master's)
Being a Comparative Literature major, my passion revolves around the subject matter of literature in its comprehensive sense - works of the great masters as well as some contemporary authors. I also hold a Master of Arts Degree in Education (Linguistics/TESL). As such, I have mastery of English grammar, composition, and syntax. With a second major in Journalism, I have taught Technical Writing, Business Writing, and the like. Broadcast Communication being my Cognate, I have also taught Speech to both high school and college students.
As an English Professor for 14 years at the University of San Agustin, the largest school in the Visayan Region of the Philippines, and at the University of the Philippines, St. Paul's College of Nursing, and Iloilo Doctors' College, I was exposed to various groups of students from different backgrounds, thus, enriching my perspectives as regards learning. As The Most Outstanding Graduate of my batch in the University of the Philippines, the premium university of the country, I was the sole recipient of the Rotary International Award for Journalism and of the Eagles Award for Journalism as well.
I specialize in Literature subjects as well as in Grammar, Composition, and Essay Writing. I generally use the Socratic method of teaching - which stimulates critical thinking in the student - thus, providing him with the opportunity to contribute to his own learning. I provide a free consultation with the prospective student and I require a 24-hour advance cancellation notice via e-mail or text messaging.
My tutoring schedule is from Monday to Saturday, between 9:00 a. m. and 9:00 p. m. My base rate is $60.00/hour for an in-person lesson. Online tutoring will be accordingly announced in the near future.
I look forward to interacting with you in a fun environment while together, we explore the vast treasures of literature and the richness of the English language. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
