About Stephen

I got my BA degree from the Univ of Calif Berkeley in 2007 in physics and bioengineering. I tutored, conducted research, and published a poster.

After graduation, I worked in the California Institute of Quantitative Biology's cytoskeletal research group from 2007 to 2008. I then attended graduate school at USC for physics from 2008 until 2010, receiving my MA. I like to tutor and have been doing so for a while. I have experience tutoring students who are in high school.

As a second year medical student, I have taken and aced genetics and biochemistry. I have prepared a lecture on genetics of DNA and RNA replication, diseases related to genetics, and the machinery of replication. My future projects include descriptions of the mathematical distribution of genes in the DNA code, sequencing experiments, and how to engineering patient specific treatments for maladies in high throughput quick turnaround labs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biostatistics

Statistics are the studies of distribution functions and error propagation, and biostatistics involves these concepts applied specifically to biology, distributions of relevant cellular and molecular systems, and ensembles of biologically relevant things like herds, populations, and bacteria.

I took statistical thermodynamics in undergrad and grad school. I have finished two semesters of medical school.

Differential Equations

Differential equations are representations of derivatives of any order combined in linear and non linear products and sums representing a wide variety of phenomenon and abstract concepts. Heat flow, electromagnetism, wave equations, and fluid dynamics are all differential equations. I can discuss these equations, the formation of series solutions and how I learned about them from textbooks I read at Berkeley and USC during my days as a grad student and undergrad in physics.

Linear Algebra

I took linear algebra in college and I majored in physics. A lot of quantum mechanics involves matrices, determinants, linear operators, and things like that. I think you can look at the kernel of a matrix and the Wronskian. I got my BA and my MA from Berkeley and USC.

Organic Chemistry

I took orgo 1 in Berkeley and orgo 2 at Orange Coast College. I think I got a B and an A. I am a major in physics and I have my master's in physics as well. I am good at explaining molecular orbital theory, reaction kinetics, and MCAT like questions. If you need reaction help, then I can do that too.
