About Grace

I am an optimistic, compassionate college student who loves people. I grew up as the oldest child in a large family, and one of my sisters has Down Syndrome. Ever since my sister was born with special needs, I wanted to become a teacher or therapist of some sort. My sister became one of my first students, and the harder she worked to learn, the more I was inspired to find creative ways to teach her.

I volunteered as a math and literacy tutor for a local Down Syndrome Achievement Center and sharpened my passion for tutoring. After I graduated from high school, I spent two years interning as a character education teacher, volunteering in public elementary schools in Oklahoma City. I taught character lessons in 35 classrooms, tutored, and led small group teams during after-school clubs every week. Last spring, I traveled to south India and spent five weeks teaching English in two different schools.

Through my experience in inner city public elementary schools and abroad, I have witnessed the devastating effects of lack of education and poor character. I believe that encouragement is essential to academic success, and every student needs a supporter and a goal to work towards.

Currently, I am studying for my BA in Education at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA. During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing card and board games, composing music on the piano, hiking, and riding my bike.

I enjoy motivating people to do their best and search out the solutions to problems. Perseverance is the key to conquering the fear of failure that keeps many students from achieving success in their goals. It's not only about success, it's about the character behind the performance. I want each person to reach his or her highest potential by developing character that will enable him to look beyond the struggles of today towards the opportunities of tomorrow.

I enjoy helping students of all ages overcome mental roadblocks in their writing by providing support, feedback, and encouragement. From creative writing and journaling to essays and book reports, and college assignments, I love to write. I want to help students develop a proper understanding of language, grammar, and a versatile vocabulary so that they can freely express their thoughts and ideas.

I have had the most experience teaching and tutoring children in the Pre-K-6th grade age group. I enjoy turning homework into exciting challenges to be mastered and laughed about. Children are full of energy and potential; listening to them is like catching a glimpse of the future. I love hearing the perspectives of curious elementary students. They are the next leaders and deserve the highest respect.

I love helping people in any way I can. Tutoring is not just a job to me, it's my opportunity to serve and appreciate another person. Please contact me if you would like homework assistance, are interested in learning to read music, or write high school or college papers. I believe that every person has valuable gifts and talents to share with the world. Don't waste your time; view each day as a chance to pursue your dreams!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Very nice tutor... — Today was my son's first lesson with grace online. She was very sweet and cheerful. My son enjoyed it very much! I think it would be more beneficial and time efficient if we could do in person lessons; but, nevertheless, Grace did a good job of using the wyzant whiteboard to engage my son. She used blocks to explain math word problems in a more simplified way. I would definitely recommend her to ...
