I have a Ph.D and M.S. in biochemistry, my specialty being bio-organic chemistry. I was a professor at a prestigious four-year liberal arts college where I taught upper division biochemistry and organic chemistry. I have taught and tutored chemistry at MSJC and other colleges. I LOVE teaching, and always have from the very beginning. There is no greater fulfillment than helping a student to achieve their academic goals. My teaching specialty is taking the fear out of chemistry- particularly organic chemistry and biochemical pathways, to show you how to understand the logic behind the reactions and pathways and thus to minimize memorization. With chemistry in general I can show you how it's really nothing more than applied common sense. I can do this with math as well. There will always be some amount of memorization, but I can show you where it's important, where it's not, and how to achieve it. But it's the understanding that I emphasize.
I will not lecture to you. I will instead guide you to achieve a greater understanding that you will acquire through your own thought processes. I will do whatever it takes to make sure you understand the material, so long as you are also willing to put in the effort. I also won't be a minute stickler. If it takes a little more time to cover the material, and you're really trying, I'll stay for it and I won't charge you for the extra time.
Because of my 24 years in the medical device industry where I applied chemical concepts on an almost daily basis, I can also show you the relevance of chemistry to medicine and other "real-world" situations.
Although I do not have a history degree, I have been studying European History for 25 years (post-Roman through WW2) and I know how to make the subject fun and interesting (think Game of Thrones!). I usually have a minimum of 1 hour for a session, though it may be more for long distances.
Mr. Scott M. is a superb tutor. Nothing compares to the lessons that he provides. He is extremely well versed in ALL aspects of chemistry. I had asked him to tutor me in AP Chemistry. It went very well. I went from disliking the material in the class to actually enjoying it! I loved learning from him. So much so, that I wished he was a teacher at my school. Mr. Scott M. is remarkable, friendly and kind. He is able to help the student even when the student feels hopeless. I have a huge test coming up in the class and with Scott's help I know I can go from thinking I will not pass it, to passing it with flying colors. Thank you Scott! Your help is much appreciated!
My daughter aced her Chemistry test and was so grateful for the help in understanding Scott provided. We will definitely be using Scott again. Thank 6ou again Scott for being legible and for you help.
Scott is a great tutor! He was patient and my daughter has a better understanding. He is easy to talk to and works to the stidents ability. We will definitely call on him again!
He teached chemistry
I am glad I found him as a teacher for my daughter.
Looking forward to have more lessions
We have chose him because of good reviews. We are glad that we have chose him
Scott was super friendly and did a great job breaking down and explaining chemistry topics. Very very great tutor!
She learned more in a short time with Scott than with her chemistry teacher. The ionic compounds are finally making sense!
Scott tutored my 9th, 10th, and 11th, grade homeschooled kids in high school chemistry and they were so engaged in the topics that they were surprised the 2 hours was up! They look forward to his next visit and can't believe they enjoyed the review and topics so much. Before today, they all disliked chemistry and now they are definitely questioning that! I am so happy for them and grateful to Scott.
Scott helped me understand the key concepts to algebra. I had an important exam to pass and with Scott's help I got a B+. I'm so Thankful for Scott's guidance!
He was so amazing and took his time to explain everything to me in great detail. I had a long session and he stayed energetic and enthusiastic the entire time. He knows chemistry inside and out.
He is helping me understand general chemistry first before moving into organic chemistry. That has been a lot help and has clarified questions and things that didn't make sense. I'm glad I found him and will be getting more tutoring sessions with him.
He is a skilled teacher who knows what I need to focus on to succeed. Under his tutoring, I have learned how to see patterns in O-Chem that make the material as a whole make sense.
Scott is an experienced and knowledgeable tutor. He cares about his students and wants to help them reach their academic goals. Would highly recommend his services.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Ph.D. in biochemistry that included a heavy emphasis in organic chemistry (bio-organic chemistry). I have taught organic chemistry at the college level: Two upper division and two lower division classes. During graduate school I was a T.A. exclusively in organic chemistry for almost three years. Additionally in my 24 years in private industry I have used organic chemistry to synthesize new compounds for applications in the in vitro diagnostics industry. In fact teaching organic chemistry is my specialty.
