Hi! I'm Zeb. I recently graduated summa cum laude from Yale University, where I studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. During undergrad, I found myself becoming a frequent resource for my peers in my technical classes; they would often come to me with questions about concepts, homework, and exams. Soon, I became an informal TA (a job I would eventually claim officially), working through extracurricular groups and among my friend networks to help people understand tricky ideas and solve intricate problems. I found that teaching informally like this not only allowed me to better learn the material, but it also gave me a deep sense of satisfaction when I was able to make a difference in people's learning journeys. I hope to continue to pursue these mutually beneficial relationships through tutoring now that I have graduated.

I believe that learning is mostly done by working through example problems and scenarios. While lectures, concept reviews, and explanations serve a valuable purpose, especially when it comes to computer programming or math/science classes, hands-on experiences facilitate the transfer of information much more readily through dynamic conversation. As a result, I prefer to spend the majority of my sessions working through examples. I highly recommend students bring in homework assignments, past exams, etc. in order to ensure that we review the most relevant material.

Why pick me? Well, during my time at school, I helped develop a new-and-improved version of the Yale Dining app, completed a senior project in asynchronous processor design, and served as a TA for the CS department. In 2018, I interned with Amazon in Seattle, Washington, as a Software Engineer on the Alexa Promotions Team, and currently, I work as a Software Engineer on Google Search in Mountain View, California. I have a decent amount of experience in both CS and math/physics, and am eager to help out however I can.

Lastly, a few logistical details. First off, in order to make sure we're a good fit, I'm happy to

I develop software in C++ for a living. I've worked in the C family of languages from the start of my programming career and have built many applications using them over the past 5 years. From compression algorithms to implementations of the Bash shell, my work has granted me an intimate familiarity with the workings of the language.

Computer Science

I hold an undergraduate degree (summa cum laude) from Yale University in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Aside from my theoretical coursework, I have developed software projects which include a new app for accessing Yale dining halls and a tool for asynchronous processor design. I have served as an engineering intern at Amazon and I currently work as a software engineer at Google.

C++

Very helpful and made sure I was understanding concepts more than just getting the question right. Also was available during reasonable times and able to meet right away!

Knowledgeable and very diligent tutor

I started learning Python with Zeb. I found him to be an excellent tutor. He put in a lot of effort to prepare for the lesson and ensures that the student can ask questions to clarify. He inquired beforehand about my background in programming and did not waste time in going through unnecessary commands, etc.
