I understand the difficulties encountered by American speakers learning the most beautiful language in the world, French! As a fluent French speaker, I know how hard it is to learn a language when it isn't spoken at home, and it is ultimately so rewarding to help and observe the progress in new language learners. It took me a long time to become fluent, but along the way, I have learned many tricks and nuances of the language that will help speed your comprehension and your own abilities! I spent my senior year at UCSD in France and spent 2007-2008 in Switzerland teaching on a Fulbright exchange. I love francophone culture and I can;t wait to share it with you.
As a credentialed French (and Geoscience) teacher in California for the last 12 years, I have developed an immersion-based approach to learning all aspects: speaking, reading, writing, and of course, the culture and the food!! I love when my students are able to communicate their own wishes and desires in the target language, and it is very rewarding to help my students achieve their own goals. Whether you are trying to pass the AP French test (100 percent pass rate in 2013!), the language section of the International Baccalaureate (100 percent pass rate in 2013), or just figure out how to use basic French to navigate your trip to Paris, I have the experience and the savior-faire to get you there. I love to use games, music, art, and film to enhance learning and the love of the language, where applicable.
I offer a cancellation policy of 24 hours, but I am very flexible about rescheduling sessions and working around your schedule. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked as a Math tutor in a JobCorps training center before I went back to school to become a high school teacher. I taught basic math up though Algebra and I loved making the subject relevant to these kids. It helped convince me to become a teacher.
I worked as an English teacher in Guadalajara, Mexico directly after graduating from university. It was an amazing experience and planted the seed for teaching. I was able to learn some Spanish too while I lived there.
After studying French for 9 years, I went to live there my senior year in college. I lived in Bordeaux, France for a year while attending Michel de Montaigne University (Bordeaux IV). It was the experience of a lifetime!!! I finally became fluent, I traveled and explored all aspects of France and French culture. A truly memorable life changing experience!! I even went back to live there again a few years later.
