University of California Riverside (Biology)
Hello! My name is Briana, and I currently go to UCR. I am originally from the bay area and moved down to southern California to attend college. I played soccer for about 14 years and have been volunteering at hospitals/clinics for four years. I love to talk and am a very outgoing person. I can teach writing, reading, some statistics, math, biology, botany, and a few other subjects. The majority of the classes that I take are during the day so in the afternoons I tend to be free and likewise on weekends.
I am a very patient person who loves to share my passion with others. My volunteering experiences have helped me to learn about different cultures and they also have taught me that there are certain ways in which to interact with people of different ages. I have worked with children from ages 4 years old to adults who are in their late 90's.
In regards to my teaching method, after learning about what the student wants to cover I can plan our future meetings with material I think would be good to cover or if the student directly asks for certain topics to cover, I can do that also. I understand that everyone learns in different ways whether it is by listening to their teacher, constantly writing down the material they are trying to memorize or by looking at graphs and charts. Briana was helpful. Our schedules weren't connecting at times, but when we hooked up, I found her to be very knowledgeable in math. She was helpful and very pleasant.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken about three Botany classes at UCR in which I had learned about all different types of plants and their metabolic processes, hormones, homeostatic processes, and structure. It is a very fascinating which I grew to love after taking my first general plant biology class.
I played on a soccer team ever since I was about 5 years old. When I was older I started to play on a traveling soccer team in my local city. Thereafter, I played on my high school's varsity soccer team.
I have developed studying skills ever since I was in elementary school and I understand how important they are due to the fact that they build a strong foundation. I also know that there are a variety of methods whether it is reciting verbally what you are trying to learn, seeing pictures or drawings of what you are trying to understand, listening to someone talk about a subject or even writing down the information you are trying to remember over and over again (as I do when I write my flashcards).
