## Amazing Tutor!

Andrew, 1 lesson with GloriaGloria taught me simple and memorable ways to up my math scores on my Asvab. She's a great teacher who can teach you at YOUR pace. Needless to say I'm now enlisted in the United States Navy with the job I wanted. Thanks to Gloria . If you need a tutor she's the one for you.

Well, I'll start with my passion.

I love making all subjects fun and engaging. I love incorporating the use of technology, whether a laptop or a cell phone into the learning process. I believe it is important to teach a subject or concept in ways that will incorporate each student's unique learning style, be it visual (seeing), auditory (hearing/listening), and/or kinesthetic (touching/doing).

This will be my 20th year working as an educator of students ages 5-18, but I have over 24 years...

Elementary Math,
#### Elementary Math

A primary goal of mathematics teaching and learning is to develop the ability to solve a wide variety of complex mathematics problems. Elementary Mathematics is when a students' problem solving and critical thinking skills are developed. It is during the elementary school years that the five core concepts that must be mastered are taught. They are the building blocks for all higher mathematics.
** Numbers - they are simply the building blocks of mathematics
** Place Value: Place value is the value given to the place or position of a digit in a number. The students understanding of the relationships between the numbers before and after the digit are foundational to arithmetic and algebra.
** Whole Number Operations - Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers represent the basic operations of mathematics.
** Fractions and Decimals - Extensions of whole numbers, requiring that students become proficient in their use as the four basic arithmetic operations.
** Problem Solving - Single step, two step, and multi-step problems (i.e. problems that require many steps to solve), especially word or story problems. Problem solving is the incorporation of the skills and concepts a student has learned and mastered to solve the problem.

Algebra 1,
#### Algebra 1

The goal of Algebra 1 is the development of proficient algebraic skills and concepts. Specifically, students develop algebraic problem-solving skills in the areas of operations with real numbers, linear equations and inequalities, relations and functions, polynomials, algebraic fractions, and non-linear equations.
My experience or expertise comes from working the last five years with high school or adult school students seeking to pass the CAHSEE/GED Math and the Military Entrance Exam (ASVAB). Many of these students WERE students with limited understanding of algebra or algebraic concepts. Many had a deadline for passing these test (graduation, military, etc.).
My role as the Algebra 1 tutor is to not only discover the students skill deficiencies but to also to utilize the students learning styles to to further understanding of the algebraic concept. This customizing is the key to success for my students and for me as their tutor.

The mathematics content area of the General Education Development Test contains 50 questions divided into two parts, and focuses on the following content areas:
Number operations and number sense (20-30%)
Measurement and geometry (20-30%)
Data analysis, statistics, and probability (20-30%)
Algebra, functions, and patterns (20-30%)
The content is equivalent to middle school Pre-Algebra and Geometry, as well as high school Algebra. This section also requires that one have a firm foundation of basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and integers).
As a Mathematics Tutor for the last 10 years, tutoring basic math through Algebra/Geometry weekly, to students ranging in age from 6-30, I am very familiar with teaching the skills and concepts of content area.

The goal of Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is to gauge what the the potential recruit already know about certain subjects, to measure the potential recruits general learning ability and vocational aptitude, and to predict the potential recruits performance in the eight academic areas: English (Paragraph Comprehension and Word Knowledge), Math (Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge), Electronics Information, General Science, Mechanical Comprehension, Auto Shop, and Assembling Objects.
My experience or expertise comes from working the last five years with high school or adult school students seeking to pass the CAHSEE English and Math; GED subjects: English (Reading, Writing), Social Studies, Math, and Science; and the Military Entrance Exam (ASVAB).
