Hi, there! I fell in love with Spanish a decade ago and now enjoy guiding others to better understand it themselves. While completing my double bachelor's degree in Linguistics and Spanish, I studied for a year at the Universidad de Granada in southern Spain, taking courses alongside local Spanish college students and living with Spanish flatmates. My classes delved thoroughly into the mechanics of the language, and my daily life in Spain exposed me to continuous dynamic conversation. Crucially, I confirmed that years of studying yielded an immense pay off -- an ability to converse freely with native speakers and compose academic essays at the level of my Spanish-born peers. I hope to give each of my students the instruction they need to unlock this very achievable goal of high proficiency in all facets of Spanish: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

An important step in my own Spanish learning experience was adjusting my expectations for what Spanish should sound like. I now use my training in phonetics and Spanish to help students overcome this hurdle to listening comprehension and fluent speech. I also tackle tricky grammatical topics big and small. Spanish and teaching are strong passions of mine, and I hope my enthusiasm shines through in my lessons.

I have tutored students of all ages, from elementary-school children to high schoolers to adults, and I have done so in various formats, from creating my own curriculum to helping students make sense of their homework to stepping in as a conversation partner. I passed all Spanish CSET exams required by the state of California for single-subject teachers and plan to begin a teaching credential program in the near future. If we work together, you will find an enthusiastic tutor who will spend the time necessary to craft the best lesson she can.

Feel free to send me a message if I sound like a good fit, and let's schedule a lesson together!

Grammar,

Grammar

If you are looking for assistance in making sense of Spanish grammar, I am here to help. My degrees in Spanish and Linguistics have trained me to understand, break down, and explain grammatical structures, and particularly how they work in Spanish. Many of the hardest rules for students to get used to have to do with a continuum that we don't need to think about in English (ser/estar, preterite/imperfect, indicative/subjunctive, etc.), and I can help you grow comfortable with these and other topics. Send me a message if you are interested in setting up a lesson!
