Hi, there! I fell in love with Spanish a decade ago and now gain great satisfaction in guiding others to better understand it themselves. While completing my double bachelor's degree in Linguistics and Spanish, I studied for a year at the Universidad de Granada in southern Spain, taking courses alongside local Spanish college students and living with Spanish flatmates. My classes delved deep into the mechanics of the language, and my daily life in Spain exposed me to continuous dynamic conversation. Crucially, I confirmed that years of studying had yielded an immense pay off -- an ability to converse freely with native speakers and compose academic essays at the level of my Spanish-born peers. I hope to give each of my students the instruction they need to unlock this very achievable goal of high proficiency in all facets of Spanish: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

An important step in my own Spanish learning experience was adjusting my expectations for what Spanish letters should sound like. It is nearly impossible to understand a native speaker or be understood without adopting the language's sounds. With my training in both phonetics and Spanish studies, I can help students overcome this hurdle. I am also prepared to tackle traditionally tricky grammatical topics with students. Spanish and teaching are strong passions of mine, and I hope my enthusiasm for both shines through in my lessons.

I have envisioned becoming a Spanish teacher nearly as long as I have studied the language. In keeping with California requirements for becoming a teaching credential candidate, I have formally observed a variety of teaching techniques in middle and high school classrooms, as well as a pair of collegiate-level Spanish classes I observed for a course on teaching Spanish to English speakers. I have tutored students of all ages, from elementary-school children to high schoolers to adults, and I have done so in various formats, from creating my own curriculum to helping students make sense of their homework to stepping in as a conversation partner. I passed all Spanish CSET exams required by the state of California for single-subject teachers and plan to begin a teaching credential program in the near future. If we work together, you will find a patient and enthusiastic tutor who will spend the time necessary to craft the best lesson she can.
Feel free to send me a message if you are interested or have any questions, and let's schedule a lesson together!

I hold a double bachelor's degree in Spanish and Linguistics from UC Santa Barbara. I also recently completed a year-long immersion program in Spain, during which I lived with local Spanish college students and took classes toward my majors at the local university alongside Spanish peers. A critical component of my degree included studying the most common pitfalls for English speakers learning Spanish and strategies for overcoming these as a teacher. I have passed all CSET exams required of Spanish teachers in the state of California, and I am a patient and dedicated tutor who will spend the time necessary to prepare the most effective lesson she can.

I hold a bachelor's degree with honors in linguistics, which deepened my understanding of English grammar and how it differs from that of other languages. Throughout high school and college I became familiar with many commonly taught works of literature and strategies for crafting coherent literary analysis, and in high school, I received the top score of 5 on the AP English Literature and Composition exam. I also have experience teaching English as a foreign language in one-on-one settings at multiple proficiency levels.
Linguistics,

Linguistics

I hold a bachelor's degree in linguistics from UC Santa Barbara. I have also taken in-depth classes in historical linguistics, semantics, and language variation at the University of Granada in Spain. These programs have given me a strong understanding of the various areas of study under the umbrella of linguistics, from those mentioned above to phonology to morphology to syntax and more. I am a patient and dedicated tutor, and I will spend the time necessary to prepare the most helpful lesson I can.
