I majored in Linguistics at BYU, and have minors in TESOL and Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. I work as an ESL instructor at an international school in Utah County, where I am currently teaching TOEFL preparation classes. In previous semesters I have taught grammar and speaking classes to intermediate level students. My philosophy when it comes to teaching is to keep things interesting; by that I mean that I like to use various types of mediums when I teach (music, movies, games, etc), in addition to quizzes and tests. I was born and raised in northern California where I loved to go camping, fishing, and SCUBA diving with friends and family. I took 3 years of French in high school. I lived in the Philippines for two years and am fluent in Tagalog. I love learning about other languages and cultures, and I love being able to teach my students about English and American culture as well. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
