Hello! My name's Jon and I'm an illustrator. I graduated from Art Center College of Design with a BFA in Illustration.
I really believe that anyone can learn to draw but can only really excel at it if they truly enjoy it. Through personal experience, I've learned that a sincere enthusiasm for a craft makes any painstaking number of hours and mistakes worthwhile. As an instructor it is my priority to help students develop specific goals for their own artwork and provide feedback that would help them reach those goals.
I feel that I have an expert understanding of traditional "foundation" drawing/painting and have had extensive experience in interpreting subject matter (from the human figures, animals, and still life's) in a variety of styles ranging from "realistic" to "simple" to "caricatured."
I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach to drawing or painting; there are basic "rules" to drawing and painting but there are thousands of ways to communicate those ideas. I believe I am detail-oriented and I am constantly thinking of different ways to reach the same goal.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
