About Kristina

Hi there! I will beginning my first year teaching this year while earning my credential! I have many years of experience in tutoring and being involved in the classroom. After earning my AA, I became a substitute teacher's aide while I took classes. Classes ranged from physics, elementary math, to literature and methodology classes on how to teach. These classes taught a variety of strategies to best reach each student. This range of different classes gave me great knowledge in many subjects.

After I earned my BA, I started substitute teaching and started teaching at a tutoring facility. Not only had a learned many strategies and differentiation of instruction, I was able to put it to use. If a student didn't understand the material explained one way, we would keep trying until it made sense. Making content and material connect to the child's life allows the child to relate it to his/her own life. It is always so rewarding to hear students excited because they understand the material or can pronounce words using the correct phonics! I want each student that I help to know that it's okay not to understand something, but it's not okay to give up.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to get a lesson scheduled!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

Being as I am enrolled in the teaching credential program at California State University, Stanislaus, I have been well exposed to Common Core. It is truly an amazing curriculum being implemented. Students use reasoning skills to come to conclusions. It allows for a deeper level of thinking for the whole child. Instead of merely coming to an answer, students have to explain how and why they believe that way. When I long term substitute teach, I have been teaching the Common Core standards, and it's truly a beautiful thing seeing student's reasoning. When discussed as a class, it helps struggling students.

Elementary (K-6th)

My Bachelor's degree is in Liberal Studies for elementary teaching. My heart and soul goes into education. Currently, I'm enrolled in a teaching credential program while I long term substitute teach. I have learned many different teaching strategies to reach children of all abilities and special needs. Before substitute teaching, I was a substitute paraprofessional. This position helped me explain myself in ways that I never could reaching children with learning handicaps and special needs.

Phonics

I have worked as a long term substitute teacher for a kindergarten class at the beginning of the school year. I taught my students the sounds of letters, and at the end of my time with the students, they were already beginning to blend CVC words! I am also taking a reading methods class in the teaching credential. I have many resources to grab from as well as many strategies to help students.
