Hi, My name is Joselyn Luna and I am a student at Modesto Junior College (MJC). I currently work at Me-Wuk, a preschool in MJC's West campus. I believe the best way a student can learn is by having fun and being surrounded by a positive atmosphere. As a student, I struggled with math and reading and understand how difficult these subjects can be. I must confess that I still struggle in math, which is why I have decided to help tutor students in reading and spelling subjects.
I am a fluent Spanish speaker and passed my AP Spanish test with a score of 5. In high school I was a AVID and Upwardbound Student. Both programs help me developed good academic skills such as taking cornell notes. Growing up as the smallest of four, I grew up with three different personal tutors who taught me in fun ways which my teachers soon began to notice. As I said before I believe having fun is the best way to learn because that was the way I learned the best. I understand everyone learns differently and will try my best to adjust to their learning style.
I participated in the Big Buddy, Little Buddy program at my school. In this program selected students from the upper classes were chosen to help tutor lower grade classes in their reading. In the buddy system we were encourage to give our little buddies higher level reading books each week. By the end of the school year my little buddy had increased her reading level by two grade levels.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
