My passion for photography began at age nineteen. I entered the Air Force and after training school I was sent overseas for duty. One of the sergeants in my unit was an avid photographer and taught at the high school on base. He helped me pick out my first camera and I have been practicing the art of photography ever sense.
When my military duty was over I settled in California, got a job, and enrolled in college at night. I wanted to expand my photography skills so I enrolled in a two year photography program at the local Junior College. I continued other learning opportunities and I earned a Photography Degree from New York Institute of Photography. I started my photography career shooting film and I transitioned to digital in 2004 and I have continued to learn new programs and techniques to keep me at the forefront of this constantly changing field.
I started my own photography business in 1999 and as it grew I needed help with shooting sessions and other aspects of the business so I hired a person who was interested and trained them to my style of photography and I realized I really enjoyed teaching what I knew to someone else. I joined the local professional photographers association and continued to learn from the worlds best by doing their workshops and gained valuable knowledge that I could later pass on to others. I later received an opportunity to teach Beginning Photography thru the adult education department at the local junior college where I first started. I taught that class for seven years and it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Nine people from those classes became part time employees for me and five of the nine started their own business and became professional photographers in their own rite. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
