Bio

I have worked as a TA and tutor since 2007, helping out college students with their mathematics coursework. I take my time to work with a student, listen to their struggles and questions, and then approach the problem in a way they will understand. I have the ability to explain a problem in multiple ways, so that if one way doesn't work, I don't give up. I recently worked with a HS Sophomore who was getting a D in her geometry class; within two months, it was up to a C+, and she finished...

I recently worked with a HS Sophomore who was getting a D in her geometry class; within two months, it was up to a C+, and she finished the semester with a B-.

I am patient with the students I tutor, and enjoy making the learning atmosphere fun without having too many distractions. I understand the need for breaks, and acknowledge that there are times when a concept isn't working. Those are times where a little break or moving onto a different idea works well. I have spent most of my education life helping my classmates with math. I don't simply give the answers, I explain how problems work so that students will be able to know the material for the test and other applications.

My personal history. I was a 4.0 student in HS, graduating as Valedictorian, as well as receiving high honors in math, physics and chemistry. I passed the AP Calculus test, and then proceeded to Westmont College where I earned a B.A. in Mathematics. I worked as a TA in Calculus for 3 years, so that is my strong point, but I also remember most of the traditional high school math courses.

Note: I only tutor in northern Modesto and Salida. If you are outside of these areas, you will need to meet me at an agreed upon location.

Calculus,

Calculus

I took Calculus in High School and College. I was a TA for 3 years at the college level for Calculus. I've tutored two different students in Calculus, and both have passed with an A or B in the course.
Geometry,

Geometry

Many students go through math and understand it until they hit Geometry. Geometry is a different way of thinking. There are proofs and a lot of visual ideas. It takes patience and practice to understand these concepts well. I got my start tutoring Geometry, so I know it well. A lot of the struggle is knowing how to look at it, and I can help students see things the right way.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Precalculus is one of the classes I see the most frustration with. The ideas are challenging and the pace is quick. It builds on a lot of ideas from trigonometry, geometry, and algebra. My approach is to make sure those foundations are solid, and fill in the gaps when needed.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I received a 710 score on the SAT math section when I took the test. I've been helping several students who have all seen at least a 50 point jump in their score with my help.
Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Prealgebra
