I am an experienced tutor for struggling and dyslexic readers with training in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading.

I have taught special education in the New York City public schools, been an instructional assistant in special education in Southern California, have training in the Orton Gillingham/Structured Literacy approach to teaching reading, and have been tutoring students privately for 13 years.

Ever since I was young, I knew I would go into the field of education, and I knew I would work best with students at the elementary level. I've always had a passion for reading, and I especially love children's literature. I've worked with students in this age group exclusively and have 18 years of experience helping elementary students become confident and successful readers.

Years ago, I realized the students I was teaching needed a different approach to learning to read. I discovered that an Orton Gillingham/Structured Literacy based approach is what would work best for them. I began implementing this approach with my students and it was exactly what they needed. Research shows that it actually works great with ALL kids, struggling or not!

I begin with an assessment so I can learn about what they already know and what they still need to know, then come up with a plan to close their reading gaps. We move at the pace that is just right for your child.

An O-G approach is a comprehensive approach that follows the Five Pillars of Reading: phonological awareness (the foundation for reading and the biggest predictor of future reading ability), phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension. For extra practice in a particular area, I create my own material or I pull from a variety of evidence-based curricula aimed at improving phonological awareness, fluency, or comprehension.

I make the online experience interactive, engaging, and fun. I incorporate learning games into my lessons for practice and reinforcement. I provide follow up work between lessons. Additionally, I find out what my students
