I haven't always wanted to be a teacher. I went to graduate school in Chemical Engineering and I was asked to teach classes in Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Mathematical Modelling. It was here that I fell in love with teaching. Helping others to master challenging topics is such a rewarding endeavor.
I've devoted the better part of my life to teaching because I love the profession. I've worked with students of all ages (elementary school through adult) and all ability levels. I am experienced at preparing students for standardized tests such as the SAT (Math, Chemistry and Biology), AP (Chemistry and Biology), ACS Chemistry Olympiad and the MCAT. Many of my students earn scores of 5 on the AP Exam and/or 800 on the SAT Subject test. I have been recognized by MIT (4 times) for being the most influential high school teacher of one of their
Although I love science, I have always been a bit of a math nerd (790 Math SAT, 800 Math GRE). I have had many years teaching math to students from elementary school through adult. I can help with such topics as fractions, percents, exponents, volume and area, graphing, factoring, linear equations, quadratic equations, inequalities, polynomials, trigonometric functions and identities, probability, matrices, exponential and logarithmic functions, and many more topics.
Chemistry can be a very challenging subject if you don't have the proper problem-solving skills. I can show you a technique that makes the solutions just fall into place. I can help with naming chemical formulas, balancing equations, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, solution chemistry, colligative properties, acid/base chemistry, oxidation/reduction, chemical kinetics and many more topics.
Biology is such a difficult subject because of the wealth of information that you are required to learn. The complexities of cellular respiration or mitosis/meiosis are hard to keep straight. My 4 years at Johns Hopkins University and my years of teaching biology have given me a strong background in this area. I can help with cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, anatomy and physiology, and biochemistry.
Are you having difficulty in math or science class? Let me help you or your child succeed. Each student learns concepts in their own unique way and I can tailor my lessons to suit your specific needs. Schools are placing more and more emphasis on math and science and you don't want to be left behind. I haven't always wanted to be a teacher. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
