College of San Mateo/University of CA (Music Marketing)
Assisting people with learning to play saxophone or flute provides me enormous pleasure! I have been a performing musician in numerous professional venues (Jazz, R&B, big band, swing, small society bands, rock 'n roll, Latin, etc.) for many decades. Playing music has provided me a lifetime of incredible experiences. I am skilled at reading music, ear training, phrasing, tone production, breath control, improvising and numerous other aspects of learning to play a saxophone or flute.
When I was in college I played in a big band jazz ensemble that was one of eight bands selected nationally to go and play at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
One of the reasons I enjoy teaching so much is that I am a professional communicator (see advertising agency experience below) and am adept at finding what works to get students enthused about learning and playing music. And equally important, I like to have fun when teaching which makes the journey for my students so much more enjoyable. Some of my students have played first chair in school bands and went on playing into college.
In addition to my playing roles, I am on the Board of Directors of the All American Boys Chorus, a group of over 100 boys between the ages of 8 & 15 who travel around the world performing for different venues.
With regard to the writing tutoring I would provide, I have been in the advertising industry for over two decades and have written for scores of applications including, communication plans, marketing plans, print ads, radio spots, TV ad scripts, proposals, brochure copy and many other examples. My skills in writing utilize a very creative approach. Words on paper are just that--words. It takes a creative approach to transform them into something that inspires and motivates your reading audience.
I can assist students to conceptualizing what they want to communicate, organizing the information, and effectively translating the information into moving text that will make incredible impressions.
I am flexible with my times and easy to work with. Once you experience my approach you will be very pleased.I look forward to talking to you about you or your student's personal needs!

Arnie knows a lot about music and he surely knows how to motivate the student to study. The classes cover technique, jazz, improvisation and reading skills. I surely recommend.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have successfully taught many students the art of playing flute. I bring a well rounded approach to learning the instrument that you will not find with many instructors. In addition to the technique and skills required to become proficient, I am also skilled in improvising and can help the student acquire skills that will put them well ahead of other players.
I have been in concert and marching bands; played flute on-stage professionally with a variety of groups and as an opening soloist for headliner groups; have been hired to "lay down tracks" in recording studios; and numerous other musical venues.
Equally important is my approach to teaching. I make the process enjoyable for the student which encourages them to apply themselves to improve.
Give me a try and you and your student will be pleased with the results.
