About Atousa

I am a Biology and Microbiology Professor at Coastline Community College. I love teaching, and most of all, I love to help students to learn and understand the materials.

My experience as a Teaching Assistant at CSUF and Biology Instructor at Coastline College has taught me the importance of being in love with your job (teaching). When you love something, you do anything to accomplish it in the best way. I have found the ultimate goal of teaching to be to help students not only to learn, but to enjoy the material as well. Personal flexibility as a teacher has proven itself as a critical aspect of achieving this goal.

Teaching involves many factors. The first one is to motivate the students by maintaining and displaying my personal enthusiasm for, and the impact of, the subject (biology) on their lives. My goal is to be the best teacher I can be. I want to create a learning environment that encourages freedom to ask any question and fosters respect between the students and me. I want them to know that I care for their learning and I will do my best for them to benefit from and enjoy a class. One way to reach this goal is to be always prepared and organized with the class teaching material. A teacher who demonstrates a strong grasp of the subject and an orderly method of teaching it will foster trust and respect from the student. Another way is to provide opportunities for students to ask questions about the course and text. I think the more I get students involved, the more they will learn. I have found that by utilizing small groups, I can increase participation and there is more chance of students interacting. To this end, effective questions and challenging projects are helpful.

A high expectation in a very well organized syllabus encourages students to take the course seriously. We can ask them to write feedback at the end of first week, which will build a learning climate in which they have responsibilities for thinking about learning in this class.

In writing this statement I have been reminded how important teaching is. There are many other factors to be considered such as teaching styles that help students to learn. As I read and experienced many different areas in teaching techniques, I started to discover and develop my own insights about teaching styles that work for me.

As a child, I always experienced difficulty learning, and most of the time there was nobody to help me. For this reason, I developed a love to help other students to learn. I soon found that other students who needed assistance were coming to me for help because they could see my love and willingness to help them. From these experiences a love for teaching has been deeply formed in me, and becoming a teacher is the fulfillment of this deep love to teach.

Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Farsi

I can teach Farsi very well. I am a native Iranian. I teach reading and writing very well. I grew up in Iran and got my AA degree in Tehran. Here at church I helped our Farsi class to teach children. I love our literature and language.

Great microbiology tutor — Atousa explains microbiology in a way that makes this somewhat difficult subject to learn, not so difficult. Her personal micro slides are also very helpful. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing a microbiology tutor. ...
