In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have helped several students learn to read by teaching them phonics. I teach the students how to connect the sounds of letters or groups of letters to form words. I also teach students to blend the sounds of letters together to be able to learn words they do not know. I make sure that the students know the sounds of the letters, the short and long vowels, dipthongs, digraphs and the 44 sounds you need to know to be able to spell words.
