About Raymond

Math should be and can be a fun exciting subject! I believe every student has the capacity to learn. Too many times there is a one size fits all approach. Through personal interaction with the student I am able to provide an approach that uniquely addresses each student’s need in a way that will accelerate his grasp of the subject.

I have been tutoring and teaching grades K-12 for over 10 years. As a substitute teacher, I sympathize how overwhelming the fast pace classroom environment can be. Teachers don’t always have the time to explain all the steps they go through when doing a math problem. As I sit down with your child, we will move at a pace that will allow him or her to process the information that will make sense.

I thoroughly enjoy spending my time working with children, young teens as well as adults when it comes to the subject of math. My sessions with students are typically fun because I often bring humor in to the discussion. Over the years, I’ve developed quite a repertoire of methods to approach most problems.

I look forward to hearing from you, to begin an exciting relationship that will meet your goals for this school year.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

A prerequisite for the continuation of more advanced math, this subject introduces the student to concepts that may seem peculiar at first. Initially, basic fundamentals rules need to be explained. Then, I will show him how to solve equations with one and two unknowns. After going through a few problems, I am confident I can make him comfortable with doing them himself.

Algebra 2

Algebra II includes complex equations as well as new concepts such as logarithms, solving word problems and imaginary numbers. Because the concepts are unrelated, I will help the student to create and keep a “tool box” showing when and how the different rules apply. Word problems present its own challenges. I will show the student how to format the words into equations and make it an easily solvable problem.

Elementary Math

Math is the foundation to many subjects. As a result, I believe it is very important to spend extra effort for a thorough understanding of the structure of math on these fundamentals. Once these basic concepts are established, the student will have the success he needs to go on to higher levels of math. With my over ten years of experience on tutoring in math, I feel confident that I can make math fun and easy!

Geometry

figures. In addition, geometry contains a special set of rules that govern how to prove congruency of triangles. Besides passing the CBEST and CSET tests, I have over ten years of tutoring high school students. As a result, I feel confident I am able to help students in this very unique branch of mathematics.

Prealgebra

A prerequisite for the continuation of more advanced math, this subject introduces the student to concepts that may seem peculiar at first. Initially, basic fundamentals rules need to be explained. Then, I will show him how to solve equations with one and two unknowns. After going through a few problems, I am confident I can make him comfortable with doing them himself.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry can be a confusing subject as it introduces new vocabulary words such as Sin, Cos and Tan and the Unit Circle. My approach is to make these confusing words relate to everyday life. Also, to explain that these words are simply referring to the length of different sides of a triangle. I believe I can make this daunting subject understandable.
