I started learning American Sign Language in my Jr year of High school. I have known the language and culture for about five years now and I've enjoyed it ever since I learned. During high school I served on the board as the Vice President of my high schools ASL club. I recently completed my American Sign Language certification through a local community college.
Recently at my current retail job we hired a deaf employee; in doing this I was able to be in on the hiring process and training him and also training our staff on how to communicate and interact with him. I did not ever think of being a Sign Language tutor until one of my coworkers pointed out that I had already been teaching the staff so I should expand; that's when I decided to give tutoring a try.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been learning American Sign Language for the last 5 years. I have taken deaf culture classes, finger spelling and classifers, ASL 1, 2, 3, child psychology, and communications in order to be certified in the language through my local community college. I just finished the certificate program, and my certification is being processed through my community college. I helped to teach my staff in a retail business how to interact and communicate with our deaf coworker who I was able to help with interviewing and hiring although I am not part of the management. I have filmed 4 different sign song videos. I often teach my family, friends, and coworkers ASL.
