Bio

I have been working as a tutor for over two years now. I started out working in a computer science lab helping people on various assignments they had. I eventually decided I would like the experience of working as a private tutor and started doing so summer of 2013 and have continued ever since. I have tutored many subjects such as physics, calculus, precalculus, algebra, geometry, and java. I eventually decided I would like the experience of working as a private tutor and started doing so summer of 2013 and have continued ever since. I have tutored many subjects such as physics, calculus, precalculus, algebra, geometry, and java. I love the experience of helping a student gain a deeper understanding of a subject they have been struggling in.

I am currently majoring in physics at Sacramento State University, I planning on graduating spring 2015. Physics is a subject that requires you to have a strong background in many areas such as mathematics, computer, electronics and so much more. This same background also prepares me to tutor students in a wide range of subjects.

I have received the following awards and honors from California University of Sacramento physics department:
Awarded the Maxwell Physics Scholarship for Fall 2012, Spring 2013, Fall 2013
Awarded the Vanderberg Scholarship on May 1st 2014
Awarded the Edwin Iloff Physics Scholarship on May 1st 2014
Inducted into Sigma PI Sigma Physics Honors Society on May 1st 2014

Java,

Java

I have had about 3 years of experience programming in Java. I have a decent knowledge of data structures and algorithms; however most of my experience is in creating simulations. I have also had quite a bit of knowledge tutoring people in java while I worked in the computer science lab at Sierra College.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I apply algebra on almost a daily basis. It would be impossible to study subjects such as calculus and physics without algebra. I have also had experience tutoring many people in algebra. Algebra at this level is largely about solving problems so as your tutor I would primary focus on your ability to solve and understand the solutions to the problems.

Calculus,

Calculus

I have taken three semesters of calculus in college, including vector calculus. I also have experience applying calculus in my physics courses.
Physics,

Physics

Physics is a subject that I truly enjoy. Every since I was young I would wonder about how the universe works. Now I as a physics major every time I solve a problem I am a little closer to that elusive goal of understanding the universe. I have completed the standard calculus based physics series. At the junior/senior level I have taken Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics. Electromagnetism, Into to Modern Physics, Scientific Computing, and Electronic Instrumentation.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I have a strong background in differential equations. So I will be able to help you with any introductory course in differential equations. I am familiar with the common techniques in a first course in differential equations, such as separation of variables, solving linear differential equations, exact equations, Laplace transforms, and many more. I am also experienced in applying differential equations to real world problems, such as population models, motion with air resistance, and RLC circuits. In my introductory differential equations course, I received an A and had above 95% on all of my tests.

Reviews

Knowledgeable and a patient tutor.

John reviewed with my daughter the basics of algebra 2, physics, and chemistry. I like how he does not give her the answer but challenges her to critically think about solving each problem.

Very Patient/ Very Knowledgeable

I was impressed with how he knew and taught me the subject of intermediate algebra. He works with you as you solve the problems so that you can build confidence and be able to solve problems on your own. He really wants you to know your subject well and he is very patient.

Responded promptly on initial request

John helped me with a specific Java issue and helped me to understand the issue. I would not hesitate to seek his help again, and recommend him with no reservation. Very patient and asked appropriate questions to help me gain understanding.
