Over the past 10 years I have taught several grades. Currently I teach 1st Grade with an emphasis on Common Core Math and Reading. I also have been acknowledged and awarded as a 4th and 7th Grade Math teacher. While teaching 7th Grade, I was involved in the AVID program.
Before I became a teacher, I was very involved in the education of my own 3 children who have all successfully gone to college. Education is a priority in our household.
In addition I worked in the Families for Literacy program and have tutored adults to learn how to read and help their families to become readers. I am starting to tutor as I have some extra time now that my children are raised.
I have taught 1st, 2nd, 4th and 7th grade Math. Problem Solving and Common Core is a specialty. One way I reach students is through making it a game and using pictures and models to explain.
I currently teach 1st grade and work directly in foundational reading skills but, can also help with more advanced Reading fluency and comprehension.
Common Core lessons are filled with inquiry, informational text, analysis and deeper thinking and as a highly qualified educator I believe in leading my students in intriguing and rigorous conversations.
I have taught a range of 1st - 7th grades. Currently I teach 1st Grade. I love teaching Reading skills but am also very talented in teaching Math.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a highly qualified multi- subject credentialed teacher with experience using Common Core curricula. My Masters Degree is in Holistic and Integrative Education which is based on problem solving and deeper level thinking. I also served as an AVID coordinator for year while teaching middle school. Being trained in AVID has helped me to lead my students in their thinking, writing and speaking skills.
I am a certified teacher. Over the past 9 years I have taught 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades. While teaching 7th grade I taught Math and Science. I also team taught in 4th grade and emphasized teaching Math and Writing. Currently I'm having a lot of success teaching 1st graders - especially in reading. Overall, I have a great gift in reaching my students based on where their academic needs are and what interests them.
As a certified 1st grade teacher, I have taught my students to read using phonics as a tool. Phonics helps them learn to decode many words. The faster you can decode the sounds you will gain more meaning from reading.
My focus as a teacher has been to teach reading - I use thinking maps/ graphic organizers to organize comprehension.
