About David

I have over ten years of experience as an Adjunct College Instructor, helping underperforming students achieve academic success in their business and management courses. I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, finance, health care, human resources, labor relations, marketing and organizational leadership at several Bay Area colleges and universities. My approach to teaching is to make sure students can apply what they learn, as opposed to just memorizing information, and I incorporate examples from my business experience so students understand the difference between theory and practice.

I have over twenty years of accounting, finance and operations experience in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors with a number of organizations in different industries. My previous positions include Interim Controller, Independent Consultant, and General Manager.

I am currently an Adjunct Business Instructor at Brandman at Brandman University in Walnut Creek, where I teach courses in Human Resources and Organizational Leadership.

In high school American History and Civics were two of my favorite courses, and I became interested in Politics in 1991 when I served as the Campaign Treasurer for a Concord City Council candidate. The following year I went to work for a public agency, where I developed a strong interest in public policy issues, and decided to pursue an MBA in Health Services Management. I also serve on the County's Advisory Council on Aging where I interact with local government officials, and the board of a non-profit organization in Hayward. Finally, I recently joined the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce and the East Bay Leadership Council, to become more active in the local business community.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
