Southern New Hampshire University (Psychology)
Recent graduate holding a BA in Child & Adolescent Psychology with a 3.3 GPA as well as a lifetime membership to PsiChi and Sigma Alpha Pi honor societies. I graduated from my AS program in Criminal Justice with a 3.25 and maintain an A/B average. I feel most confident with tutoring English, Religion, Criminal Studies, Psychology and K-12. I am comfortable with children with disabilities, ADD/ADHD, Autism and Asperger's. I especially work well with those on the Autism spectrum as I have two family members who fall on the spectrum. I am patient, kind and willing to work with a student to cater study habits to their needs. I currently work as a special education instructional assistant through a local school district. I also spent time over the summer learning new skills and techniques to assist children with social and behavioral issues as a summer psycho-therapeutic day camp support staff.
I would like to work in Contra Costa County between the cities of Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Concord, Walnut Creek, Orinda, Moraga and Lafayette. I will travel if necessary; we can discuss the arrangements further. I prefer to work at the student's home in a quiet and undisturbed room, library or book store. Pets do not bother me, but they can often be a distraction. I simply ask that pets be placed somewhere not to disturb us.
If I sound like a good fit for you and your child please send me a message. I look forward to speaking with you more! Our child enjoyed his first tutoring session with Jessica. This is definitely a good sign that they are well matched. We are looking forward to our next sessions.
Thank you for the feedback :-). I hope to slowly push his limits and challenge him with writing, all within reason and consideration for each session.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am a college graduate of child/adolescent psychology and have worked with children to improve their handwriting. I personally write in cursive 90% of the time and encourage students to write neatly. I am aware of and have utilized various handwriting guides such as specifically designed papers, ergonomic writing utensils and books to encourage better handwriting. As an instructional assistant with the special education department, this is also a subject that I help students with.
