As a Southern California native, I have tutored many students in high school and college for over 10 years in numerous subjects including math, statistics, physics, and economics. I have had the opportunity to tutor students from the basic remedial level up through the graduate level.
During my 10 plus years of tutoring, I have had the opportunity to gain ample experience working with students of all aptitudes (from the struggling student needing extra help at a beginner level to the strong student looking to boost his or her already high grade up to an A+). I have also helped prepare students for successful completion of the SAT and GRE tests, as well as for the Actuarial P Exam.
As a tutor, I am happy to do the following, and more, to help my students: reviewing material for a subject to enhance understanding, going over notes from a class, helping with homework and reviews, and reviewing material for exam preparation. My primary goal is for you to succeed and for you to get the right help that you deserve. I also strive to make the learning experience fun as it is certainly easier to learn effectively if you are enjoying the process. Consequently, I am always happy to adjust my methods of teaching and pace in a way so that you can clearly follow and understand the material. I am patient and look for ways to reduce seemingly complex problems down to a simpler nature for my students when possible.
Regarding my educational background, I received a B.S. in Mathematics and B.A. in Economics from Pepperdine University. After graduating from college, I went on to graduate school, to complete my M.A. in Statistics and recently finished my Ph.D. in Statistics and Applied Probability with a Financial Math emphasis at UC Santa Barbara (UCSB). During my time at UCSB, I was a Teaching Assistant for various courses in Statistics and Probability for 6 years which enabled me to have extensive experience teaching and helping students of various ability levels and backgrounds. While in college and graduate school, I also tutored many students on the side in subjects ranging from high school math and physics to college and graduate-level math, statistics, finance, probability, and economics.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For over 10 years I have tutored a ton of high school students in Algebra I courses. I have a strong background in Mathematics and can break down problems of all difficulty levels to make them easy to understand for students of all aptitudes. I enjoy Algebra I a lot and am committed to helping students succeed in the course. When tutoring Algebra to students, I try to also help them with solving the types of related problems they could see later on SAT or GRE tests.
I have always enjoyed tutoring students in Algebra II and have helped high school students in the Malibu and San Fernando Valley area improve their grades. When tutoring for this course, my focus is not just on reviewing the new material, but also on mastering the old material from Algebra I since Algebra II directly builds from it. I am flexible and willing to adjust my pace for those who need a greater review and mastery of Algebra I concepts along the way.
For over 10 years, I have tutored many students in Calculus courses, including some in multivariate calculus. I have always really enjoyed Calculus courses since I took it at my high school. I have a solid understanding of the material for Calculus and have been able to effectively prepare students for their exams. I have a good idea of what kinds of questions show up on the AP Calculus AB/BC exams as I have tutored students in prepping for that; I have taken the AP Calculus BC exam and scored a 5 on it.
I have always had a great interest in Finance and have tutored multiple students in classes such as Financial Management, Financial Derivatives, and Corporate Finance. In addition, I have have been a T.A. for a class prepping students for the Finance section of the Actuarial Exam. I have helped multiple students learn Finance in a way that it was easy to understand the subject matter and get good test scores. My emphasis for my graduate school program was in financial math so I have a solid background on finance principles. I also have a basic background in Financial Accounting so could help with some of that as well.
Ever since 2008, I have tutored multiple students with various math backgrounds in Geometry. Certain students can find Geometry difficult at first because it is different in certain aspects than Algebra. However, with the right help from me, I can make the topics of Geometry that you are struggling with make perfect sense. When tutoring this subject, I show students how to have a good visual understanding of the problems at hand since Geometry is more about shapes, measurements, and properties than mere calculations. However, I make sure students also master the problem solving techniques acquired in Algebra since many Geometry problems involve eventually involve basic algebra and solving equations.
During my 10 plus years of tutoring I have helped multiple students in Prealgebra. I have tutored students coming from all types of math backgrounds and have a good understanding of what topics are the most important. Certain topics in Prealgebra including factoring, rules of exponents, and word problems can cause trouble and confusion for some students when they are first exposed to them. I make sure that my students learn these concepts well and at the pace comfortable for them so that they can excel in later math courses.
Over the last 10 years I have tutored multiple students in Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. I am eager to help students master the material for these 2 subjects as this is crucial for doing well in Calculus (for those who go on to take that). I can flexibly tutor Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus for students who are planning to take Calculus afterwards as well as students who do not wish to go further in math but want a high grade. Although many feel that Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry are more challenging than Algebra II, this does not need to be the case if you learn the material the right way.
I have helped and taught many students of all backgrounds and ability levels as a Teaching Assistant (T.A.) for Statistics courses. I have done this for 6 years and succeeded in getting many of my students to earn excellent grades in the courses. I have also tutored many students in multiple Statistics courses, and I completed my Masters and Ph.D. in Statistics. I am eager to help my students succeed and really enjoy the subject matter.
During my years of tutoring, I have taught multiple students Trigonometry. Mastery of the content in Trigonometry is important for students' success in later math classes like Calculus (for those who choose to go on in math classes). The trigonometric identities can come up at times for multiple types of Calculus problems dealing with trigonometric functions. However, I can also tutor students for this class who do not plan on taking more math courses afterwards but who just want to do well.
