My name is Kristin, and I am an experienced tutor local to the South Bay and Westside of Los Angeles. I have been tutoring since 2008, so I now have seven years of experience helping students of all ages and grade levels achieve their academic goals. I have a ton of experience tutoring the sciences, mainly Biology and Chemistry at the high school and college levels. I have also begun tutoring the ISEE and the ACT, and have had great success helping students with their admissions essays and applications to college or graduate school. Not only have I been tutoring a long time, I also take a lot of pride in getting to know my students and ensuring their success. I am always available to my students outside of our scheduled sessions for whatever they may need.
A little bit about me, I graduated from UC Irvine in 2010 with a Bachelor's of the Sciences in Biological Sciences, as well as a Bachelor's of the Arts in Dance. I then attended UCLA Emergency Medical Technician certification program and was hired as an Emergency Department Scribe. I then moved on work in a private otolaryngology practice while taking on Basic Science Research at the Cardio-thoracic Surgery Lab at UCLA. I applied and was accepted to several medical schools, including UC Irvine School of Medicine, but have deferred my application for personal reasons and to pursue more holistic health and wellness career methods. I am 200 RYT Yoga Teacher Alliance Certified, and love teaching and taking yoga classes in my free time. My other hobbies include dancing (especially ballet and ballroom) and spending time outdoors/camping.
I would love to know more about you and how I can help you become a better student, so please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions!

When I first called Kristin I needed help with my college biology course. I was falling behind and was having trouble understanding the numerous concepts professor expected me to know for the exam. Kristin clearly explained all the processes and reactions I asked her to and then some, always helping me keep the big picture in mind. She helped me understand that biology could be a fun and exciting science and pushed me to deeply understand the concepts instead of memorizing them.
If it wasn't for Kristin I would have been lost in biology but thanks to her I became one of the top students in my class!! As for results, she pushed me to understand the concepts so well that I got 100% on my final exam!! What better results can you ask for?
She is very invested in her students success, not just there for a pay check.
Highly Recommended! College or High School Science Courses
Thank you Bradley! I enjoyed working with you as well. I can't take full credit, you have a great work ethic and I know you studied hard, but I'm glad that I could help you take it to the next level and ace your final, congrats!
Kristin got a late start working with our student who was not doing well in Chem. She established a great rapport and succeeded in getting not only a passing grade, but an increase of 1 1/2 grades in a matter of weeks.
After our first session together, Jon's chemistry tutor announced that he was going to have his final in just two weeks! We buckled down, and he was able to raise his grade by his performance on the final. The greatest challenges yield the greatest rewards.
Kristin is very patient, very professional and most importantly, she ensures that the material is well understood. She is a great tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Anatomy is one of my favorite subjects to tutor. My classical ballet training has given me a unique appreciation for the human body, and my rigorous and multifaceted dance education required that I learn anatomy, kinesiology, and injury prevention. I then took the upper division Human Anatomy class at UC Irvine. This was one of the more challenging classes that I took due to the sheer volume of information that we had to learn. I found it was easier to memorize the names and locations of the structures when I understood the physiology of them first; after all structure determines function. I have further deepened my understanding of anatomy by working closely with physicians as their scribe, documenting patient histories, physical exams, and test results. I believe that I have a wealth of knowledge that makes anatomy interesting and relatable, which will ensure your success in the class!
I received my training pre-professionally at Lauridsen Ballet Centre from age 9-18. I travel to the annual regional festival Regional Dance America, and have participated in yearly summer intensive programs at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, The Rock School, Utah Regional Ballet, and Kansas City Ballet. I was a Dance Major at UC Irvine, graduating with a BS in Dance. Classes included Music for Dancers, Injury Prevention, Choreography, Ballet, Modern, and Jazz technique, as well as quarterly performances. I received scholarships to teach dance to under-served elementary school children. I have taught at Lauridsen Ballet Center, Starz Dance Academy, and Focus Dance Center. Now I am offering private or semi-private instruction. I will come to your studio.
Biochemistry was notoriously one of the hardest classes at UCI, but with a lot of studying and diligence I was able to receive one of the highest grades in the class. I like this class because it synthesizes my 2 favorite subjects, biology and chemistry, and because the information relates to real-life biological situations.
As a biological sciences major at University of California, Irvine, I had a very broad and in-depth biology education. When I took the MCAT, I scored in the 99th percentile on the biological sciences portion.
I took one full year of general chemistry with labs at UC Irvine and received A's in every class. Chemistry is my favorite subject to tutor. I love taking intimidating concepts and breaking them down into digestible ideas that students can relate to.
I love physiology because it is a class that synthesizes all of the basic biological principles into ways that our relevant to our body and how it works. I have taken physiology, physiology lab, and exercise physiology and received A's in every class.
I have been doing yoga for over 10 years at various studios and am currently taking my YogaWorks 200 hour teacher training.
