Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Fortran

I am a software developer and engineering manager retired from 30+ years of employment with Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon. I wrote my first FORTRAN program in 1975 in my first computer science class at Binghamton University (then SUNY Binghamton). I continued to write software in FORTRAN mostly for applications in nuclear and high energy physics at Binghamton as well as at graduate school at UCLA. I continued to write FORTRAN programs that calculated electromagnetic cross sections at Northrop in 1981 and plotted data flow diagrams at Raytheon in 1984. True, I wrote my last FORTRAN program in the mid 1980s, but I continued to write software in JOVIAL, a language having much in common with FORTRAN, through the rest of that decade.

Macintosh

I purchased my first Macintosh computer in 1985 and have used them ever since. I worked as a professional software developer and manager at Raytheon for over 30 years. Since the mid-1990s, I've been the president of a Mac user group. Finally, I've been tutoring a number of individuals on Microsoft Excel more than half of them on the Macintosh.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Excel since its inception in 1985. I am well-versed in its advanced features including pivot tables and array formulas. I have used Excel to model complex business and engineering systems and have managed big data on the order of 2000 records by 100 fields.

Microsoft Project

I spent 20+ years as a project manager for a software development organization. I am familiar with Earned Value Management techniques and have used most of Project's views including Gantt, PERT and resource leveling. I have exported data back and forth between MS Project and Excel. I have an advanced knowledge of the product.

Physics

I received an MS in high energy/particle physics from UCLA in 1980. I taught undergraduate physics at UCLA as a graduate student. I worked for Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon Corporation for over 30 years.
