About Eleanor

I come from a family of teachers where school was always the first priority, and I share their values of working hard in school to improve oneself and to grow intellectually. In high school, I was a peer tutor for the AVID program for two years, in subjects including French, algebra, calculus, history, biology, and literature. In college, I have tutored students in French and accounting. I love using allusions and visual references to help students learn, because I myself am a visual learner. I have also been a hired note-taker for students for my entire college career.

Although I take school very seriously, I have an energetic and bubbly personality. I try to make learning fun, as well as to explain to students the logic and reasoning behind various principles so they know why they are learning something. I also try to think of time-saving ways to organize information and to maximize efficient learning. I feel very fulfilled when I know that I have helped someone to learn--it's in my blood!

I earned a 5 on the AP Calculus exam in high school and a 5 on the AP Statistics exam, which I took as a high school sophomore. I love math and think very logically and mathematically. I can help Algebra 1 students to understand basic algebraic principles and, furthermore, to remember them beyond their next exam.

I received a 5 on the AP literature exam, a 770 on the writing portion of the SAT, and a 34 on the ACT writing portion. My father is a literature professor and has taught me excellent grammar from a young age. I have also proofread peer papers in both high school and college.

As an accounting major, I am well-versed in financial, managerial, and tax accounting. I have earned a B or better in all of my business courses, including marketing, micro and macro economics, organizational behavior, accounting, business law, financial management, and business calculus. I also received internship offers from 3 Big-Four accounting firms, and completed an internship in Assurance with Ernst & Young this past summer. I have accepted my offer to work for them full-time beginning next fall.

Please contact me if you need help with these subjects or others not listed. I look forward to being your tutor!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

I am an accounting major at Pepperdine University and am a Core Assurance Intern for Ernst & Young.

Algebra 1

In school, I took a fast-track math sequence beginning in 6th grade of pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, trigonometry/precalculus, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics. I scored a 5 on both AP exams, one as a high school sophomore. As a current accounting major, I organize my notes and thoughts very logically when explaining math and related subjects to others.

Bible Studies

I attend a religious university and have earned an A in all 3 of my religion courses. The courses have covered the Old Testament, New Testament, and the relationship between the modern self, society, and God. I can tutor for basic to intermediate, analytical writing and Bible study classes.

English

I am fluent in English and scored a 5 on the AP literature and writing exam, as well as a 770 out of 800 on the writing portion of the SAT. I am well-versed in grammar, spelling, and writing techniques.

French

I participated in a French accent authentication program for 4 years during high school, as well as attended a French immersion camp each year. I have traveled to France twice and can speak proficiently.

Prealgebra

I participated in fast track math during school and scored a 5 on the AP Calculus exam my senior year. I am currently an accounting major at Pepperdine University.

SAT Writing

I scored a 770 out of 800 on the writing portion of the SAT and I also help high school and college students with English writing and literature assignments.

Spelling

I performed well in spelling bees growing up and have a high-level mastery of the English language. I can help students to develop a consistent voice and tone in their writing and to feel more confident with grammar and spelling.

Study Skills

I worked as a peer tutor for the AVID (Accelerating via Individual Determination) program for two years during high school. Here I helped high school students to improve their organizational habits, to make study guides and flashcards, and to keep a daily planner. I also helped them to review their notes and Cornell note summaries frequently to improve memory and uptake of material.

Track & Field

I ran track for 7 years before college, and I have competed on a Division I track and cross-country team for 3 years so far in college. I have trained for over 10 years and can help other runners to achieve their goals, in terms of nutrition, fueling, recovery, training, mileage, lifting, speed work, and form drills.

Writing

I tutored AVID (accelerating via individual determination) students for two years in high school, a main task of which was to help them in their organizational and study habits.

In terms of writing strength, I scored a 770 out of 800 on the writing portion of the SAT and earned a 5 on the AP Literature exam in high school.
