University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) (Literature)
Hello, I am Natalie. I am 23 as of this month. I am a graduate of the College of Creative Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara. I have a BA in Literature and Creative Writing. In high school I was a teaching assistant for the resource class helping students with ADHD and other disabilities learn important study skills and organization. I tutored students as young as five with ADD. I recently returned from a five week volunteer trip in Thailand and Cambodia. There I designed a Mural on a wall we built that is to be part of a multipurpose center. I learned a tiny bit of Thai there as well as gained a better understanding of language. I taught English to elementary students in Pai, Thailand. I drew pictures for them and taught them new words and worked on reading and organized lessons. We played with them at recess and sang songs. Linguistics fascinates me as well as languages. I myself have ADHD and had a great deal of difficulty in school growing up. I worked very hard all throughout school and honed my skills in time management to allow for electives and a social life at my college. I plan to go teach English again sometime next year or so in either Spain or Thailand. I had a hard time learning to read and I understand much of the frustration that students face. I also understand how important phonics is in terms of learning to read. It allows the student to apply what they have learned. I know that without all the teachers who took an interest in me I would have been left in the dust, so I would like to help students like me that are too bright and hungry for knowledge to be struggling in school.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have roughly three years' experience tutoring students with ADHD and ADD. I have ADHD and ADD. I understand what approaches work. Each student needs the lesson tailored to their specific way of learning. By breaking down the work students are less likely to get overwhelmed. If ten pages of reading are assigned and students have five days to read them, the student will read two pages each day. I struggled through school until a handful of teachers took the time to work with me. I developed study and organization techniques. Thanks to the extra time those teachers took with me I was myself a teaching assistant for the resource class. Resource is a class for students with special needs. I have tutored students as young as six. I taught ten year olds English in Thailand while doing volunteer work over the summer. I have students I tutor right now that are grappling with ADHD and their medications, as well as everything else that goes with it. I have a BA in Literature and Creative Writing from UCSB. I studied at Oxford during the summer when I was sixteen. I graduated in four years from UCSB. All of these things I was able to do because of those teachers that went the extra mile to make sure I wasn't left in the dust. It takes time and effort to find the right approach for each student. I am committed to doing that for each and every student.
I have always been obsessed with biology. I also took a good amount of classes in biology in college and basically all throughout my academic career.
I have a BA in Literature and Creative Writing from UCSB. I spent the majority of my college years studying English and literature.
I am a native English speaker. I can read write and speak English. I can write creatively in English. I can explain slang and idioms. I can explain a lot of the strange ways of the English language.
I have a BA in literature and have experience tutoring. I am great with essays both with content and organization. My goal is to make the assignment interesting and to get the assignment done on time and done well.
I was a teaching assistant for the resource class at Malibu high school. I tutored students with ADHD and ADD. I taught English to ten year olds in Pai, Thailand. I am a tutor to many students in Malibu. I am very familiar with the study skills required to do well in school. I am good with time management, organization, multitasking, and neatness. I am very thorough. I had difficulty in school growing up due to ADHD. I understand what it is like to struggle and how important it is to have a teacher who will take the time to find a way to approach the material that works for each individual student. I saved 90% of my work from all my years of school, and that includes K-12 all the way to senior year of college. I was in resource in middle school and high school. It was very helpful to have one on one time with a teacher. This is the whole reason why I decided to tutor. I have many students in Malibu, some with ADHD or ADD. It brings me joy to help them learn and raise their grades. I also taught ten year olds in Thailand while doing volunteer work.
