My name is Bonny F. In the 30+ years that I have been a teacher, I have taught all subjects and grade levels. I am willing to tutor all subjects that I am qualified to teach. My current California Teaching Certificate lists my endorsements as: Social Studies, Spanish, English as a Second Language, Home Economics, Vocational Food Service and Early Childhood Education.

I began my teaching experience as the assistant Church Nursery School teacher when I was in the 6th grade. My mother was the Children’s Ministry Director at our church for most of her adult life. She encouraged me to volunteer as a church school teacher and nursery school teacher. I found that I was able to share my enjoyment of learning by making learning fun for my students.

As an adult, my first full-time position was working on a small reservation for Native Americans in California. From there I moved to Central California, where I began working with migrant Hispanic students. In California I completed the requirements for certification in English as a Second Language, Home Economics, Vocational Food Service and Early Childhood Education.

I began my college education as an exchange student in Colombia, South America. There, I attended La Universidad de la Valle de Cauca, where I studied International Relations, specializing in Latin American studies. Because of my love of traveling, upon returning to the United States, I joined the U.S. Army and travelled to Germany. In Germany I worked in Food Service Management, before transferring to the 7th Army Choir.

When I returned to college, I decided to change my major to education, as it was a career that would allow me to spend more time with my family. My college credits were converted to endorsements in Social Studies and Spanish, and I graduated with a B.S. in Education. This degree allows me to teach Preschool to Adult in most of the states. In the past, I have had teaching certificates in California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.

These many experiences have allowed me to teach children and adults in many different subjects. Please contact me if you think that I might be able to help you with your learning challenges. I look forward to helping you, because learning new things can be fun!

ESL/ESOL,

ESL/ESOL

My first year of teaching as a Spanish teacher, I was asked to also teach ESL. Since I had no specific training, I taught the subject as I would any foreign language with amazing results. This encouraged me to return to college to get certified as an ESL teacher. I have been teaching and enjoying ESL students ever since.
Spanish,

Spanish

As a Spanish teacher, I have taught all levels of Spanish from beginner to IB and AP Spanish. I believe in giving equal weight to speaking, listening, reading, writing and cultural knowledge and divide time along these lines as well. For this reason I use a variety of teaching methods and subject matter to appeal to the different interests and learning abilities of my students. My mission and purpose as an educator is to help students prepare for life in a global economy.

Common Core,

Common Core

In the last 10 years, the United States Department of Education has developed basic requirements, called Common Core, that most states have adopted for their own standards in education. These requirements are basic knowledge that business and industry believe are necessary for future workers to have in order to be able to work in most businesses and industries in the United States. The purpose of teaching students Common Core is to help prepare them to find work when they graduate from school. In the 30+ years that I have been a teacher, I have taught all subjects and grade levels.

Elementary (K-6th)

I chose to get my degree in education as a 5 year B.S. degree instead of the 4 year B.A. degree from UNL. The fifth year of study in education taught me how to teach all ages from pre-school to adult. I enjoyed the versatility of this degree, as it allowed me to teach at all levels. When education became more specialized I returned to college to take a refresher course in Early Childhood Education at Whatcom Community College in Washington.
Reading,

Reading

Reading is one of my favorite things to teach. In my 30+ years as a teacher I have always enjoyed reading with my students, and inspiring them to read any chance they get. Reading is important in all subjects, across the curriculum. The better students read, the better they will be able to solve the problems they will encounter in school and in life. I like to help students improve their reading for both school and fun.

English

While I did not intend to become an English teacher, teaching students to read and write across the curriculum, and helping ESL students gave me extensive experience with teaching the English language. As an avid reader, English has always been a subject I enjoyed, because I use it all the time. It's fun for me to help students become enthusiastic about how they use English in their own lives.

History

American History,

American History

In the 30+ years that I have taught as a certified teacher, one of my favorite subjects has always been American History. It is a great experience to help students learn about the interesting events that have happened in America's past. Understanding the cause and effect of different events is what helps students apply the history of America to the events that affect them now and in the future. American History is the story of ourselves, who we are, and who we want to be.
Anthropology,

Anthropology

When I began my college degree I majored in Latin American Studies. When I decided to apply for a B.S. in Education my credits were changed to a major in social studies. The Social Studies program at UNL qualified me to teach anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology, and sociology.
Geography,

Geography

As an International Relations major, I have traveled throughout the world to experience the world personally. Because travelling is a wonderful hobby, I have also read and studied the history, culture, anthropology, economics, sociology, and psychology of the world to understand how geography affects the people who live in different places. As a teacher, this view of the world is something I try to share with all of my students.
Political Science,

Political Science

Before seeking my bachelor's degree in education, I majored in Latin American Studies. When I transfered to the education department, political science was listed as my minor on my transcripts from UNL. My broad Social Studies degree allows me to teach political science, which I have done often over my 30+ years of teaching.
Social Studies,

Social Studies

Before I changed my major to education, I was majoring in Latin American Studies. When I applied for a B.S. in Education, I was granted one with Social Studies as my major. The Social Studies degree from UNL prepared me to teach history, sociology, psychology, anthropology, geography, economics, and political science.
World History

World History

As a high school student I was involved in studying foreign languages, hosting exchange students, and traveling as much as I could. After I graduated from high school, I went to South America to study Latin American Culture. When I returned from there I went to Europe to study European Culture. As a teacher I traveled and taught world history whenever I got the chance. I would enjoy helping you learn more about this world in which we live.

Special Needs

ADHD,

ADHD

In my 30+ years as an educator, I have taught many ADD/ADHD students. Since they were often of special concern, I have taken several classes on techniques and methods for teaching special education students. I also attended many conferences and school inservice days devoted to ADD/ADHD.

Hard of Hearing

In my 30+ years as a teacher, I have had the experience of teaching many hard of hearing students. As my mother was hard of hearing I easily applied what I had learned growing up with her. I also took many classes in special education that dealt with hearing issues. Since teaching pronunciation is a basic part of teaching foreign languages, I have many years of experience in helping students to listen and make the sounds necessary for communication.

The basic information required to pass a GED exam is similar to the knowledge needed by students to pass from the 8th to the 9th grade level.
