I am Cristian, a recent graduate of Brown University with a Bachelor's in Computer Science. I got my start in tutoring out of a desire to see my high school classmates not only not fall behind but succeed. This desire was later reciprocated by professors, TAs, and deans; all of whom helped me thrive in an unfamiliar environment as a first-generation college student. I now wish to take those experiences and pass them on to other students so that they too can feel empowered in school. My tutoring style is adaptive and is adjusted based on the needs of my student. In general I try to ensure students have a deep conceptual understanding of what is expected of them before moving on to practice problems.
I have nine months of experience in tutoring calculus, mostly achieved as a student taking the course and tutoring peers. I taught students the intuition for several key concepts including limits, derivatives, and integrals. Often, I held sessions with a focus group of 5 students who needed extra help, and would hold extra hours after school for anyone looking for additional help. On one occasion, I taught a class in place of our teacher to make the idea of areas under curves more intuitive.
Similarly, I worked in Algebra and Trigonometry courses for about a year. I created and taught lesson plans, supervised the class providing one-on-one help with assignments, and addressed weaknesses in learning strategies.
I am quick to respond and am willing to offer a reduced rate for first time sessions. Feel free to contact me for additional questions or to schedule a meeting.
