As a freelance proofreader, I have helped many clients improve their writing. I also specialize in math, especially algebra, having scored 100% in my Algebra SAT exam when I was in high school. My wife and I have a daughter in high school who has benefited daily from my math training skills. This year I am helping her with Geometry, which I also enjoy.
My Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications has given me excellent skills in patiently communicating difficult concepts in simple terms. I always try to seek out multimedia resources that make learning fun for those I help. In math, for example, I bring a portable white board for ease in teaching and to make it more fun.
I am also proficient in teaching most Microsoft computer programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. I work as an amateur webmaster and even created my own website for kids and would love to share what I've learned with any students who want to make computers their passion, too.

English portion such as definitions and how we should read the question and then afterwards go back to the paragraph instead of reading the paragraph then the question and back to the paragraph to search for the answer.
Math problems sometimes confuse me if I don't know point-blank what they are asking me. John did a good job at unraveling the questions in my SAT book so that we could truly understand and work at solving problems. Even though we had some trouble finding the answer key, I felt pretty confident in the answers we choose because he made it so that we both knew what we were trying to do.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have used Microsoft Publisher to complete many projects, including a 2-year assignment of providing a 12-page monthly newsletter complete with graphics, wordart, articles with automatic overflow unto the next column or page, and attractive formatting for visual appeal.
I have tutored successfully in this subject before, and look forward to tutoring again, helping each student to gain confidence in utilizing all the many features Publisher has to offer, especially creating text boxes and graphics which can be easily manipulated and placed wherever you want.
When tutoring in this subject, I like to point out the many shortcuts to creating a professional-looking publication, including utilizing templates, toolbar buttons, and keyboard shortcuts.
Finally, I develop my students' skills in locating the best graphic images, available via clip art, online, or stored in folders, such as My Pictures. This helps to stimulate a desire to use Publisher again and again to become even more proficient.
