I'm Matt! I am currently an upcoming sophomore at University of Southern California, majoring in Theater. I have tutored many students in high school, middle school, and elementary school. I really enjoy helping people understand material. I was always afraid to ask questions in class because I went to an academically competitive high school where people were judged for asking “stupid” questions. I understand what it feels like to be nervous about asking questions in a difficult and fast-moving class where it seems like everyone is ahead of you. However, there are some teachers who take their time with their students to answer whatever questions they have. I strive to be like these teachers.
As a tutor, I want to provide a safe space where students can ask me whatever questions they have because no questions are stupid questions. When I normally tutor, I ask the student what specific topic we are working on and if they have a particular concept they want to work on, so I can prepare explanations in advance. Whenever I work with students, I take my time, making sure they are 100% comfortable with the material. Of course, I adapt my process for particular students' needs and learning styles if need be. I am also an actor, so I like to have fun and will try to make funny analogies and examples to engage students. My goal is to help students understand material and develop at their own pace.
I have tutored in various math subjects, and I specialize in improving test scores and developing a clear understanding of the material. I have prepared a student for his AP Calculus AB exam, and he got a 5 (highest possible score). I took advanced math courses throughout all of high school, and the highest level of math I took was AP Calculus C. Additionally, I got a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam.
I truly want to help students succeed in the classroom. I am easy to reach and will always respond quickly. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson. I look forward to meeting you!
