About Al

Bio

I now live in Los Angeles after having taught Spanish, French, Italian, and ESL for the past 36 years in the state of New York at the middle school, high school, and University undergraduate levels.

I was rated Highly Effective by the State of New York Dept. of Education. I retired in June from the larger classroom environment, and want to teach one to one.

I now live in Los Angeles after having taught Spanish, French, Italian, and ESL for the past 36 years in the state of New York at the middle school, high school, and University undergraduate levels.

I was rated Highly Effective by the State of New York Dept. of Education. I retired in June from the larger classroom environment, and want to teach one to one.

I hold Permanent Certification from New York State Education in French, Spanish, Italian and English Language Arts. I taught ESL at Berlitz School of Languages for a few years, too. I have also taught the traditional subjects for kindergarten through 6th grade to accommodate my colleagues at my district's two elementary schools during the pandemic.

I have had 100% passing rate for all levels of the languages I teach. I have also successfully trained my seniors in high school for the NYS Seal of Biliteracy, the same program offered in California.

I am a polyglot. I have spoken Italian and English since language acquisition, and Spanish and French since age 12. I have lived in Puerto Rico and Spain, Paris and Nice, St. Barths, and at home in Italy and America.

I hold an ABD (PhD program) in Comparative Literature and Translation, a Master of Arts in Translation and Comparative Literature, a Master of Arts in Teaching World Languages, a Bachelor of Arts in Italian Languages and Literature.

I will ensure your success as long as you work for it on your own, as well. It's quite simple: language requires repetition. Practice during your private time is imperative if you wish to store any information in your long-term memory to be used applicably correctly.

I am here to ensure that you understand the difficult material with which you might be struggling. I'm also here to help you practice speaking the language, listening to the language, reading the language, and writing the language.

I am a classically trained professional actor, and member of SAG-AFTRA since 2009, who received his training from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan, from Numerous Television and Casting Directors in Los Angeles and New York. I am also a veteran World Languages Teacher of 34 years. I required all of my students from Middle school through College to prepare a class presentation at least two times per year. I would allow my students the freedom to choose their topics. I would then work with them on organizing the material & later practicing their presentation, and, once comfortable, they would then present to classmates. Furthermore, I have served as a mentor for the NYS Seal of Biliteracy Program in which High School Seniors must prove their English is up to par (with a presentation in their English class), and then present a research project in the target language (Spanish, French, etc.) to a committee of teachers from the New York State Education Department.
