Hi! I'm Vanessa and I have been living in California on and off for the past 5 years. I am originally from Berlin (Germany) which is where I got my teaching credential and Bachelor's degree in 2018 at one of the best universities in the country. I got my major in teaching Physical Education and my minor in teaching English as a second language.
Studying another language fascinates me and has helped me a lot in teaching German to students as their second language.

I knew pretty early on that I wanted to become a teacher which is why I got into coaching sports when I was still in high school. I got my coaching license in Volleyball and also became a snowboard coach (got my license for teaching snowboarding during my university years). Throughout the years of becoming a teacher myself I did not only coach a lot but also tutored different subjects for all different age groups. I assisted teachers in school and held after school tutoring classes. In 2015 I decided to become an Au Pair (a live-in nanny) in Encinitas (CA) for a lovely family with 2 children. I became a part of the family during my 18 months stay and was assisting during homework assignments, teaching them German, doing hands-on activities with them like crafting, or enjoying outdoor activities and reading etc. Still to this day we see each other every months.
One of the most important things I have taken away from my years of teaching, coaching and tutoring - is to really get to know your student individually. Everyone learns in their own unique way and therefore needs different methods of teaching. Having worked in a school that introduced a new system based on the principles of humanity, solidarity, and sustainability, I truly believe that trusting in the potential of students, empowering them, teaching them to learn how to learn, and making sure they stay curious - is the way to go.
