About Abby

Bio

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I'm excited to start my fourth year at UCLA. After a few years of toggling between majors, I finally landed on a geography major and a GIS minor; my interests span many subjects and I always love learning new things. I've received top grades in both high school and college in subjects like Math, French, English, Geography, and Programming, with an ACT score in the 97th percentile. With my current GPA of 3.96, I've made the Dean's List every semester since...

With my current GPA of 3.96, I've made the Dean's List every semester since I began at UCLA, and have received the honor of an achievement scholarship each academic year.

French is just one of my specializations; I've taken French classes throughout middle school, high school, and college, as well as studied abroad in France. I also tutor English, having received the top score on the English portion of the ACT, and math subjects such as algebra I, algebra II, and geometry. My tutoring approach begins from a conceptual perspective, incorporating creative examples to illustrate the topic, before transitioning to working through the necessary material. I favor teaching multiple techniques to solve any one problem, allowing the student to build an inventory of analytical strategies, and then testing that knowledge with practice problems. Of course, my teaching style is largely individualized and can be modified to fit the student's learning style.

I hope to bolster students' success by helping them learn how to think critically and solve problems, at their own pace and however works best for them. I believe that academic convention is a language that can be frustrating, but can ultimately be learned with enough patience and confidence. I understand how discouraging it can be when something doesn't come easily; being supportive and presenting the material in an approachable way are my top priorities as the students I work with face their challenges.

Feel free to reach out with any questions or meeting requests! I will respond within 24 hours. My goal is always to be of service to the students,
