Hello! My name is Sakura and I’m an undergraduate student at Princeton University studying English and Humanistic Studies. I decided to take a gap year this year after hearing about Princeton's decision to go fully remote. So far I've spent my gap year as a research assistant for two professors, tutoring and serving as a college admissions advisor, and am beginning a virtual internship!

I have a strong teaching background– I was an assistant Hebrew school teacher for 5 years and am currently an advisor with the organization Matriculate where I virtually mentor high school students throughout the college application process from starting their college lists, writing their personal essays and supplements, and applying for financial aid and scholarships. Last summer, I served as the Education Program Intern for Get Lit, a youth literacy organization, where I developed their 2019-2020 English class curriculum by curating poetry anthologies which are used in Los Angeles Unified School District Middle and High School classrooms.

I assist students with their schoolwork by guiding students through class assignments and homework, for standardized tests by going over practice exams and testing strategies, and for individual lessons related to vocabulary, writing, and literary analysis. Tutoring sessions are all individualized for the needs of each students.

I scored a 1530 on my SAT (780 on Reading, 750 on math), a 760 on the literature SAT subject test, and 5’s on the AP English literature and AP US History exams as well as a 4 on the AP Art History and Latin exams. At Princeton I completed the Humanities Sequence, a year long intensive course on Western literature, philosophy, religion, history, and arts. I received the English department's Francis Biddle Sophomore prize for best essay of the year on any topic in English or American Literature.

Feel free to reach out with any questions about my services or qualifications! I look forward to hearing from you!

Very sharp and kind

She has the perfect balance of friendliness to keep a great rapport with my 12 year daughter but she doesn’t waist time diving into the material. She’s very sharp and doesn’t waste words or time. She has a supreme command over the English language. I’m very impressed so far. I hope my daughter keeps her as a tudor!

Knowledgeable, kind, and highly organized tutor!

We feel truly lucky our son got to take writing and vocabulary lessons from Sakura this summer. She is an outstanding teacher: knowledgeable, patient, and kind. She is very experienced and came ready with lesson plans, vocabulary lists, and homework assignments. She was also flexible and willing to tailor her lessons to our son's interests and our requests. Our son came out of every lesson excited to learn more, and we noticed him becoming more articulate in expressing his thoughts and ideas. We are grateful to Sakura and highly recommend her to any prospective student.

Awesome tutor-knowledgeable and approachable!

Sakura coached my daughter on reading and writing regularly throughout summer. She was knowledgeable, relatable, insightful and led my daughter to think more deeply about what she reads. My daughter enjoyed her lessons with her and said that "she made talking about and understanding books more fun!" Thank you Sakura!
