Hi, I’m Erica, and I have a passion for working one-on-one with people. It’s a huge reason why I am worked toward a Master of Social Work degree at the moment. My experiences in the field of education and the social work field have taught me to work collaboratively with people in all age groups. I think patience and consistency are key and make a big difference to help others succeed. Helping others make small steps and build their confidence is highly rewarding, and I hope to achieve these with my students. I am open to adapting my tutoring style, based on my student’s needs. As such, I encourage others to be open with me about which teaching techniques work well and which do not work well.
Regarding my professional qualifications, I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with minors in Sociology and Spanish. While obtaining my undergraduate degree, I was a preceptor for a psychology research methods class and a class called, “Creativity and Innovation, Storytelling.” As a preceptor, I helped other college students understand the course’s concepts. I was also a grader for a class called, “Basic Concepts in Water Related Applications,” where I graded writing assignments and assisted students with their writing. I enjoyed being able to work one-on-one with other students to help them succeed. In addition to working with adults, I have also worked with children and adolescents in the public school system. I hold a 30 Day Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit, which is up to date. I have 1.5 years of experience as a substitute teacher and have substituted for grades pre-K through 12th. For 8 months, I also volunteered for a program called “THINK Together” where I primarily tutored middle schoolers in math. In all of these settings, I worked my best to ensure that my students understood the concepts, and I let them know that it was okay to tell me that they needed more explanation. Patience is key.
