Hi, I'm Katherine! I'm a current first-year at UCLA double majoring in English and Mathematics as a Regent's Scholar. Hi, I'm Katherine! I'm a current first-year at UCLA double majoring in English and Mathematics as a Regent's Scholar. In the future, I'm planning on becoming an educator, though I'm not sure which grade level I'd like to teach. I've always enjoyed math; my mother is a math teacher and I like to say I'm relatively good at math as a result too. However, I'm equally passionate about English and writing, which is why I chose to double major. Language is how we read, write, think, and dream, and I know to hone a skill in English simultaneously will make me a better communicator, thinker, and, most importantly, teacher. Knowing how to do math is one thing, but understanding how to use your words to be able to teach the concepts is a whole other skill, one which I am equally passionate about.
I've been tutoring mathematics since my junior year in high school and I've taught 8th graders all the way up to a sophomore in college. The subjects I've taught include high school core curriculum Math (Math 2, Honors Math 2, Honors Math 3), high school Chemistry, and community college Finite Math. I'm comfortable teaching a wide variety of math subjects, including SAT Math, which I believe my experience in an SAT camp and my near perfect score makes me very qualified for. My tutoring session format varies based off of what the student needs that week. Occasionally we will do practice problems for a previous section and review for an upcoming test; other times we might frontload material for upcoming lessons. I believe not only in just talking at students, but an interactive environment often involving writing on whiteboards or my iPad.
I'd like to truly foster learning for all my tutoring students, and I welcome any student-specific requests from parents or guardians. I respond quickly and I'm flexible with timing. Feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a lesson!
