Astrophysicist that teaches students to reach the stars
I was a postdoctoral fellow in particle/nuclear physics at the California Institute of Technology for three years, after which I became a research scientist in astrophysics at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory where I studied the early universe and dark matter for 12 years. During my PhD, I spent two years as a volunteer physics teacher at Chancellor College in the country of Malawi, where I taught electromagnetism and classical mechanics.

Clear and Helpful
I was confused at first how to calculate a function's derivative, but by the end of the session, I was confident in my understanding of the topic. We went through related practice problems and examples that eventually helped me on homework and my quiz.

A remarkable tutor.
I worked with Gary for about 15 lessons through both my classical mechanics and electromagnetism courses. He is truly a gifted tutor – not only have I received excellent grades in both classes, but I also enjoyed the process. Gary is able to condense hard to understand concepts into clear, straightforward ideas. He has a remarkable mastery of physics, often pointing out errors in the assignments given to me or things that my professor missed. I have worked with many tutors (both on Wyzant and other platforms), and great ones are hard to come by; Gary is one of them. I recommend him without reservation.

Knowledge range is encyclopaedic
I came to Gary when I was stuck on a project related to coding orbital mechanics. He was very quick to understand what it was I was trying to accomplished and he was rapid to respond to queries even outside of lesson hours. I achieved everything I had set out to achieve with his guidance and therefore I highly recommend Gary as a tutor.

Experienced Teacher
We have been discussing including the mathematics behind Astrophysics to build a strong foundation. He is patient and methodically builds the knowledge base to enhance understanding. I am looking forward to learning more and potentially participating in competitive events on this topic.

Wealth of Knowledge
Have not been able to stump Professor Gary yet. He has been an invaluable resource for my son who is a 3rd year Physics major at one of the toughest programs in the country. He has helped with everything from Mechanics to Electricity and Magnetism to Quantum Mechanics. Haven’t been able to stump him yet.

Very Efficient
We highly recommend Gary as a physics tutor as we found him through the top reviews on Wyzant and he never disappointed. He was highly confident he could raise my daughters score in under 2weeks for SAT physics and he was very efficient in guidance and tutelage by fortifying some of the needed areas and also giving challenging problems to steer her into the right direction. She was able to do the rest, and a perfect denouement of her achieving almost a full score in one of the hardest SAT subject (physics). We were thrilled.

Very knowledgeable
Gary was able to answer questions I have not been able to find anyone else who could answer. He is very facile with advanced physics and mathematics. I would highly recommend him.

Knowledgeable teacher!
Gary is the best tutor I have met. He helps me with my Quantum Mechanics right now. He is incredibly knowledgeable and can answer immediately no matter what kind of questions I ask. He helps me go through many difficult lectures. When I feel confused for some difficult concepts, he very patiently and nicely explains them until I understand everything. He is a super super great teacher!

Incredibly patient, helpful, and knowledgeable tutor
I am a college freshman taking calculus based physics (Thermodynamics and Optics) and felt completely, utterly lost and desperate in the class. I had a midterm approaching in four days and felt that I knew nothing and would fail. I was even considering dropping the class. I decided to try and work through it with a tutor though, and I am so grateful I did. Gary has been an incredibly helpful tutor for me. In a single two hour session he was able to make me feel so much more confident, confident enough that I decided to not drop. After a second session the day before the midterm, I actually felt pretty well prepared, a truly extraordinary difference compared to how I was feeling only a couple days earlier. Gary was not only very knowledgeable (there wasn't a single question I had that he didn't have a very clear, well-explained answer for), but he was also very patient with me when I struggled to understand a concept. He also worked to make sure I truly understood the concepts, asking me to work out problems myself as he watched and pointing me in the right direction instead of simply doing problems for me. It was also impressive how effective and efficient he was in helping me understand concepts and gain confidence. With a midterm fast approaching I didn't have time to waste, and Gary more than delivered, helping me understand the physics concepts, as well as the complicated math behind it, in an incredibly tight time frame. Overall I could not have done it without Gary's help. I was able to not only pass the midterm, but actually did better than average. Considering how I felt before our tutoring sessions, such a score was something that seemed impossible; but Gary helped make it possible and I am incredibly grateful for his help not only on the midterm, but also in showing me that yes, I can in fact handle this class :)
